A new AI capability that delivers analysis-ready Media Intelligence. More than just a product launch, this is a shift in how communications teams monitor, understand and act on media coverage.
Hi, name is Diana. I’m a graphic designer & blogger from Cape Town, South Africa.
I live with my husband Anton and our two kids in a 1930s house in the suburbs of Cape Town (we previously lived in a one bedroom apartment in Sea Point and then in our first house on the slopes of Table Mountain).
I started the blog in 2009 as a means of sharing my love for visual treasures – especially in the creative fields of fashion, art, design and photography. What began as a hobby eventually turned into a full-time passion and part-time job. I have been blogging for twelve years and still find cool things on the internet every day. I also design things and make websites! Source
I was introduced to the work of Spanish artist Nieves González TODAY as she is responsible for the wonderful cover art for Lily Allen’s new album which is being lauded left, right, and center. (Listen to it, it’s great! Juicy, catchy – I highly recommend.) González started art classes as a 7 year old and studied Fine Arts at the University of Seville.
I’ve decided to become more intentional with my music listening and have started making playlists again, vs just allowing the Spotify algorithm to control my listening – which invariably means I listen to the same music over and over again. Here is a new music mix for June. I hope you discover something new! The cover artwork is a painting called Fighting Orchids by Janus de Winter
What I would give to have one of these wonderful creature vases in my home (let alone the blooms so perfectly arranged in them). The most astounding thing is that the creator Adrianne Ngam only started working with ceramics a couple of years back, attending her first pottery class in 2022. She is a qualified architect with a background in the software and product design industry – previously working on bringing AutoCAD from desktop to the web, amongst other impressive accolades.
There’s a woman who lives on an island somewhere in the Bahamas who makes videos about rescuing hermit crabs that wander into her garden. They don’t really need rescuing exactly, but they have always found themselves making their home inside some kind of ocean trash – like a bendy pipe or an old glass bottle. She places the hermit crab inside a large container and then selects some shells for the little crabs to choose a new home from, which they always do.
Brazilian photographer Alécio de Andrade lived in Paris for almost 40 years; working as a press reporter, Paris correspondent of the weekly Manchete and also as an associate member of Magnum Photos. But it was his photos of everyday life that had a certain magic element to them – beautifully capturing moments in the lives of couples, people, children, and animals.
Since we now have two dogs that need regular exercise, and our kids live so close to school that we walk back and forth all day, I find myself walking a LOT and easily clock in well over 10k steps per day. This is not a hard and fast rule or something I am trying to achieve, it’s just come about from our lifestyle – and I love it because it makes me feel good and consequently my jeans are also fitting well.
An odd thing about me, and I have spoken about this before, is that I love mugs. An excellent mug will stop me dead in my tracks. This is something you can gift me for my birthday or Christmas and I would be delighted. I don’t even have space for any more mugs – even though I recently bought some from PEP Home (South Africans will know) that I really love. They are the PERFECT size, and also stackable: a feature that I covet in a mug.
When I saw Self Portrait with Franny by Sophie Treppendahl I could actually feel the warmth of that moment wash over me and pictured myself in that scene, enjoying a quiet moment with a sweet cat called Franny. That’s the best thing about art, isn’t it? To be transported somewhere when you are staring at something tangible that someone else created. Sophie is an artist from Baton Rouge, Louisiana and paints in oils.
Raymond Biesinger is a talented illustrator from Montreal who has a prolific portfolio; illustrating for an exhaustive list of publications like the NYT, Monocle, Fortune, The Guardian, TIME, Wired, The New Yorker etc etc! But it is his wonderful prints inspired by vintage publications from Canada’s Department of Agriculture that caught my eye.
i used to make really excellent gift guides, if i do say so myself. so i am putting together an ad-hoc list of online things that are just nice, and if you like some of these things then feel free to buy them for someone – or yourself?? or send this list to someone as a huge hint. i think hints are always good. PS This is a mixed bag of some South African, some European and some US shops.
