Ecuador's intelligence chief and his wife, and a US news executive have been named as three of the victims. The helicopter came down in Samburu County, in the north of the country, on Wednesday morning. Kenya's civil aviation authority said the Eurocopter EC130 crashed near Ololokwe Mountain. It was reportedly on its way to the Loisaba Conservancy, a 58,000-acre wildlife area. Tropic Air Kenya, a local safari operator, sent helicopters to help the search and rescue effort.
Firefighters still battling 'challenging' Cambridgeshire blaze after 11 days
The blaze at Holme Fen, near Peterborough, involves an area measuring around 60 football pitches, Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said last week. The fire is deep-seated in peat, which forms over thousands of years from the partial decomposition of organic matter, mainly plant material, in wetlands. Peat fires can spread underground and are "notoriously difficult to extinguish", the Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire said on its website for The Great Fen.
