Bank customers in Moldova can now use identity credentials in the EVO government app at four banks, confirming who they are from their phone without presenting a physical identity document for photocopying. Moldindconbank, FinComBank, EuroCreditBank and Victoriabank accept the credentials. Moldova’s eGovernance Agency says the integrations extend documents already held in EVO into reusable proof of identity for interactions with private businesses.

GOV.UK One Login is expanding passkeys across its service, giving more than 23 million users the option to access government accounts with the fingerprint, face scan or PIN they already use to unlock a device. The wider rollout follows a trial involving more than 300,000 users. For someone signing in on a phone, the change removes the need to enter a password and a separate security code.

Adults in England and Wales can now use a certified digital identity service on their phone to prove they are old enough to buy alcohol at licensed premises that choose to accept it. The new rules took effect on September 15, adding a digital alternative to physical identification. The change applies to licensed shops, pubs, restaurants, music venues and other premises. A customer could present a QR code for staff to scan or tap a phone against a compatible reader.

Malawi will launch the Nzika Digital ID Wallet on September 16, giving citizens a mobile way to carry and present government identity credentials. The first release is set to include a digital national ID, birth certificate and marriage certificate, with the app available through Google Play and Apple’s App Store. The National Registration Bureau is launching the wallet at the Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe as part of a broader modernization of identity management.

TreasuryDirect account holders can now link their accounts to ID.me ahead of an October 28 deadline that will retire the federal investment platform’s traditional login. The change gives users a reusable digital identity for signing in, with a smartphone camera serving as the fastest route through identity verification for people creating a new ID.me Wallet. The new option became available on September 13.

Air Canada passengers can enroll through the airline’s mobile app to use a new facial-verification gate at Toronto Pearson International Airport. The domestic gate is one of four biometric e-gates in a pilot operated by Pearson and Air Canada. Three additional gates serve passengers traveling to the United States through the airport’s transborder area. Domestic participants opt in through the Air Canada app before reaching the gate.

Android users can now move passwords and passkeys directly between supported password-manager apps without downloading an export file. The transfer begins inside the app receiving the credentials. Android identifies other password managers installed on the phone, then opens the existing provider so the user can select the data and authorize the move. The operating system coordinates the exchange between the two apps.

Indian banks, government agencies and other approved services can now place Aadhaar face authentication directly inside their Android and iPhone apps instead of sending users into a separate application. The Unique Identification Authority of India has released a native Face Authentication SDK, a set of software tools that lets participating app developers add the capture and authentication journey to their own mobile interface.

People in Germany will be able to begin using the country’s government-backed digital identity wallet on January 2, 2027, under the newly announced name d-you. The mobile app is designed to let users hold and present verified identity information from a phone. Its first planned uses include proving age, opening a bank account and signing a legally binding contract.

Singapore is extending passkey access for Singpass to Android phones, giving more users a way to enter the national digital identity service without typing a password or receiving a one-time code. The feature is being introduced in phases through the Singpass app. People using Android 14 or later can create a passkey after updating the app, with eligible users receiving a prompt or seeing a banner that guides them through the setup process.
