Medicare Enrollment Moratorium for New Suppliers Expires While Competitive Bidding Timeline Rolls On The six-month moratorium was lifted Aug. 27.
As the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced the expiration of the six-month moratorium for new Medicare durable medical equipment (DME) supplier enrollment, current suppliers and other stakeholders are waiting to see what comes next. CMS made the announcement on Aug. 27, six months to the day of the start of the moratorium.
Numotion Ally Educational Program Now Open to All Catheter Users The program, launched last summer, provides resources and a community forum.
Numotion has expanded access to its Ally Program to all people who use catheters. The national Complex Rehab Technology and durable medical equipment provider introduced the Ally Program last summer. At that time, access was limited to Numotion’s catheter customers. The program provides bladder health education, resources and community support. On Aug. 20, Numotion said, “Ally has grown into a trusted destination for educational content, expert guidance, and peer connection.
Canadian Airline WestJet Ordered to Discontinue 300-Lb. Wheelchair Weight Limit The weight limit prevented many CRT power chairs from being transported.
The Canadian Transportation Agency has told Canadian airline WestJet to discontinue its 300-lb. (136 kg) weight limit for passengers’ mobility devices, multiple Canadian news outlets reported on Aug. 20. News agencies including the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) that the Canadian Transportation Agency told WestJet to lift the weight limit before July 2027. WestJet’s regulations listed on its website prohibit wheelchairs and scooters weighing more than 300 lbs.

Incredibly, summer 2026 is nearing its end, and kids are heading back to school. Time to check out the back-to-school recommendations for parents of wheelchair riders, posted by two national providers. Rehab Medical’s suggestions include giving power wheelchair riders an extra charger; mapping out accessible entrances, hallways, elevators, restrooms and parking/drop-off locations ahead of time; and asking about clubs or groups with accessible activities.

If you are a Complex Rehab Technology (CRT) veteran — perhaps you remember when CRT was just called re/hab — you know that advocacy efforts back then began with “Let me explain seating and wheeled mobility.” Our thinking at that time was “To get a seat at the table, policy makers first need to know who we are.” Today, policy makers know CRT supports better functional outcomes and greater inclusion for wheelchair riders. Those trips to Capitol Hill did pay off.

Rehab Medical has been named 2026 Partner of the Year by New Hope of Indiana, a nonprofit community “dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities to live their most fulfilling lives.” The Indianapolis-based Complex Rehab Technology provider accepted the award during New Hope of Indiana’s yearly Silver Cup Celebration on Aug. 12.
KFF Study Compares Medicare Advantage Prior Authorization Denials, Success Rates for Appeals The analysis noted that appeals options aren’t often used.
A study newly published by KFF (formerly Kaiser Family Foundation) compared prior authorization denials by Medicare Advantage insurers, Medicaid managed care insurers and Affordable Care Act (ACA) Marketplace insurers and also examined how often denials were overturned on appeal. The report — Prior Authorization Metrics Provide New Insights Into Insurer Practices, but Gaps Remain — was published on Aug. 13.
