Search ArticlesOn Tour With Lowertown
I like a weirdo every now and then. Not like the weirdo who wraps himself in a carpet and lies around the streets of Manhattan trying to get people to step on him for his own sexual gratification - not a pervy weirdo - more like a weirdo who is committed to the bit. Lowertown - the band from New York City, commit to a bit. As for their stuffed animal friend, Dale, that freak needs to be put on a leash. That is one weird sick fuck. Why they take him on tour? I have no idea.
Surviving Hard Summer — Monster Children
Like every festival I consider spending hours of my life at, I spent a minimum of two hours scrolling Hard Summer threads on Reddit. Parking strategies, packing lists, and the cost of a beatbox at the festival in 2014 have all been carefully filed away. Buried deep in r/hardsummer, I found an eleven-year-old thread from someone excited to see Dillon Francis, Porter Robinson, Zeds Dead, and Chromeo.
Watch: Talking to Austyn Gillette
The man, the myth, the legend, the one and only AG. Love an opportunity to talk about absolutely nothing important with Austyn Gillette. Fortunately for you, it wasn't all fuck/marry/kill, we actually had something to chat about: Austyn's new EP, 'Moments', linked below, as well his the release show he's playing on July 23rd at Zebulon in Los Angeles, tickets for which are also linked below. Listen to Moments, here. Get tickets to the release show, here.
Disposable: Alex Papke — Monster Children
I like looking at photos taken by Alex Papke. I like looking at photos taken by Alex Papke almost as much as I like texting Alex Papke. I like to text Alex Papke photos of my spread butt cheeks. Then he sends me a photo of him as an obese person. I like those photos. I make them my phone wallpaper. I recently texted Alex Papke asking if he’d shoot a disposable camera for us, to which he said no, but he’d shoot a roll in his nice expensive camera for us. Fair enough.

Chanel Beads on 'Your Day Will Come' (not a 2.0)
I guess that also just sort of rings true to the subjectivity of art, you know, everyone’s own experiences do, inevitably, shape their digestion of it. Yeah. I’m curious to know if you would consider geography to have had much of an effect on your music. I mean, you grew up in Minnesota, then you did a little stint in Seattle, and now you’re in New York. Do you feel it has influenced your musical output? Yeah, definitely. I think it’s something you could think about and talk about all day.
C.O.F.F.I.N On New Film, ‘10,000 Miles From Oslo’
How was your first experience in Oslo? Any highlights? Obviously Neseblod Records and spending time with Tommy from Turbonegro. Yeah, it was great. It was the last show of the tour, and we booked ourselves an extra day so that we could just experience the place. Which ended up getting another show added to it because that show sold out and they said, "Oh, you're here longer, let's add another show." So we did just that.
A Photographer You Should Know: Josh S. Rose
If I can back track to where we should have started: how long you been doing this? This particular genre? Yeah. Almost a decade? How the fuck? This is such a niche. It is, it really is. It was hard to convince the family that you’re going to get a return on it - there is no return on it in the beginning. The question I get a lot is, ‘are they paying you?’ and often the answer is no.I was doing a series called Conversations with Walls.
Fat Lady Sang: The Sharpest Dressed Guys at the Taqueria
words by sierra skinner. We have reached a moment in time in which every band sounds like another band. That’s not an entirely bad thing, as long as the source material is solid. But, it does make a band like Fat Lady Sang especially novel. What they do feels like pure invention. Complex, invigorating, and of course, loud. And, they stand alone. Relentless, yet precise.
Watch: Getting The Juice With Jules Featuring Joey Valence & Brae
If you speak to anyone that was at Laneway last year chances are they will bring up the set that Joey Valence & Brae played in the tent. I admittedly didn’t know much about the duo at the time but as I watched thousands of people push their way into the arms of the pit, I began to pay attention. The hold that Joseph Bertolino and Braedan Lugue had over these people while they, too, jumped around the playground that is their stage, was pretty fucking cool to watch.
