Missoula, MT ( KGVO-AM News ) - The calendar still says "summer", but Mother Nature is out to tell us otherwise, after a very stormy weekend of golf-ball-sized hail, high winds, mountain snow, and enough rain to probably end the fire season in some parts of Montana.

I don't know if you've seen the videos that are going around social media with the moose in Big Sky and the black bear in Manhattan. In one, the moose is sprayed with bear spray outside of the house. In the other, a black bear broke into a house and was eventually shot. The weird thing about both of these cases, a whole lot of folks were cheering for the animals instead of the people. Montana has its ups and downs, and one of the big complaints is the unkindness of some of our states residents.

Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - Montana wildfire lines are holding on this summer's major blazes, as we head into Labor Day Weekend. In the West Pioneers, the Sand Creek Fire is now just over 35-thousand acres, but containment is also up, reaching 21%. Operations Section Chief Greg Shenk says lines along what was the fire's dangerous southern edge are doing their job. "We do not anticipate any southerly or westerly progression of the fire," Shenk said in the Thursday briefing.

As we get ready to say so long to Summer and hello to Fall, it's an important reminder that we should all be "Bear Aware" here in Montana. Montana is home to both the Grizzly and the Black Bear and as the temps drop, bears are looking for food as they prepare for winter and it just so happens that September is a peak month for bears in our area.
