The introduction of VAT and IPT in the Government’s Autumn Budget last year has added to the cost of running the Scheme. We’ve made changes to absorb some of these costs, and to protect affordability and the all-inclusive package we know you rely on.

Scheme news | 01 July 2026 Our July to September price list is now live. This quarter, you can choose from a wide range of vehicles, including more than 70 options with a no or low Advance Payment. We’ve worked hard to protect affordable options this quarter. Changes in the automotive industry, supply issues, and the introduction of VAT and IPT in the Government’s Autumn Budget last year have all increased the cost of running the Scheme.

Because of this, changes to the Scheme in Scotland need to be agreed with the Scottish Government before they can be rolled out. We’re continuing discussions with the Scottish Government about what changes will be introduced and when. While we continue these discussions, customers receiving an allowance from Social Security Scotland can place an order as normal with the current lease package. You must be in the last three months of your lease to be able to place an order for your next vehicle.

14 May 2026 | Scheme news We’ve listened carefully to feedback from customers about Drive Smart. We recognise that for some customers, the experience of using the app has not been as it should be and has caused concern. That was never our aim. That’s why we’re pausing Drive Smart from Thursday 14 May 2026 while we look again at how we can improve the app experience. Drive Smart helps customers see their driving habits to encourage safer driving and reduce accidents, and that will not change.

We’re making some changes to keep the Scheme as affordable as possible. These changes impact the Scheme throughout the UK, except customers who receive their allowance from Social Security Scotland. I wanted to personally explain some changes we’re making to the Motability Scheme from July 2026.

The UK Government has announced tax changes that affect the Motability Scheme. From Wednesday 1 July 2026, VAT and Insurance Premium Tax will apply to most new leases. This means it will cost more to deliver the Scheme. We’re making careful changes to protect customers and keep the Scheme sustainable for the long term.
