Love Everlasting Volume 1 Tom King, writer; Elsa Charretier, artist; Matt Hollingsworth, colorist; Clayton Cowles, letterer Image Comics, 2023 On the face of it, Love Everlasting is a callback to classic romance comics (which is probably why I backburnered it after sampling a few early issues). Heroine Joan Peterson is a hopeless romantic, constantly falling for one man after another. But there is a twist: the scenes keep shifting in time and place.

The Power Fantasy Volume 1: The Superpowers Kieron Gillen, writer; Caspar Wijngaard, artist; Clayton Cowles, letterer; Rian Hughes, designer Image Comics, 2025 When Kieron Gillen created The Wicked + The Divine, he was ostensibly telling a story about a group of people who were gods, with supernatural powers. But it could be argued that they might just as accurately be described as superheroes.

The Devil’s Cut Various Creators DSTLRY, 2023 This compilation was the introduction to the creator-owned DSTLRY imprint. The title originated from the aging process of whisky: during the aging process, the whiskey that evaporates is called the Angel’s Share. But the most potent spirits are captured in the wood: the Devil’s Cut. The eleven stories included represent all of the founding creators.

The Nice House by the Sea Vol. 1 James Tynion IV. writer; Alvaro Martinez Bueno, artist; Jordie Bellaire, colorist Vertigo Comics, 2025 Initially, this sequel to The Nice House on the Lake seems to have no connection to the earlier maxiseries. This new house is run by Max, who has hand-picked her invitees.

Helen of Wyndhorn Tom King, story; Bilquis Evely, art; Matheus Lopes, colors; Clayton Cowles, letters Dark Horse Books, 2025 Helen Cole was called back to her grandfather’s grand Wyndorn House estate after the suicide of her father, C.K. Cole, the famous pulp writer and creator of the popular warrior character Othan.

I Hate Fairyland Vol. 7: In the Mean Time Skottie Young, creator & writer; Brett Bean, artist Image Comics, 2024 This collection of five mostly stand-alone stories opens with Queen Cloudia in the real world (instead of Gert, whom she outwitted at the end of the previous collection). Within minutes, she is literally hit by a bus, but proves difficult (if not impossible) to kill. Not only that, but the entire issue is also one long fart joke.

Minor Arcana Volume One: The Fool Jeff Lemire, writer & illustrator; Patricio Delpeche, colorist (Issue#5); Steve Wands, letterer BOOM! Studios, 2025 Theresa’s mother has fallen ill, and as a bitter young misanthrope, returning to her small Canadian hometown of Limberlost to take care of her phony psychic of a mom is the last thing on her mind. She is immediately reminded of many things she wanted to forget, including her grandpa and her lover Melissa (now married with a child).

Feeding Ghosts: A Graphic Memoir Tessa Hulls MCD, 2024 Winner of the 2025 Pulitzer Prize for Memoir or Autobiography, Tessa Hulls tells the story of three generations of Chinese women: her grandmother, Sun Yi; her mother, Rose; and herself. Sun Yi was a Shanghai journalist caught up in the 1949 Communist victory in China. After eight years of government harassment, she fled to Hong Kong with her daughter.
