The Gophers started the season with an opening 59-7 win over Eastern Illinois.

The MN Wild will open training cam soon for the upcoming season. (St. Paul, MN) — The N-H-L season begins at the end of the month which means training camp is almost upon us. This week, captains practices continue at TRIA Rink in St. Paul with a number of players continuing to filter back into town. Thursday, the Wild prospects will report including center Charlie Stramel and forward Hunter Haight – both with N-H-L opening night aspirations.

The Minnesota Gophers Men’s Basketball Team got their leading scorer back for the coming season. (Minneapolis, MN) — The University of Minnesota has announced that Cade Tyson has rejoined the men’s basketball program for the 2026-27 season. Tyson, who was Minnesota’s leading scorer a year ago, has enrolled in classes and will practice with the team as he awaits eligibility status. Tyson, a 6-foot, 7-inch guard/forward, was an All-Big Ten honorable mention a year ago.

The Saints lost 5-4 to the Syracuse Mets in game 1 of a six game series. (St. Paul, MN) — The St. Paul Saints showed fight in coming back from 4-0 to tie it, only to see the Syracuse Mets score a run in the ninth that proved to be the difference in a 5-4 loss on Tuesday night at C-H-S Field in front of 5,063. With the Saints down 4-3 and one out in the eighth Matt Wallner doubled off the glove of left fielder Jose Ramos. With two outs Morissette tied it with an R-B-I double to right.

The Twins got a lift from Cody Clemens in a win over Detroit. (Detroit, MN) — Kody Clemens 25th home run of the season was the go ahead tally as the Twins edged the Tigers 5-4 on Tuesday night in Detroit. The Twins were down 2-1 heading to the sixth when Clemens two run shot put Minnesota up for good as they were able to hang on for the victory and tie the series at a game a piece. Dean Kremer got the start and gave up two runs on five hits while striking out three.

The NFL opens the 2026 season tonight. (Seattle, WA) — The N-F-L kicks off the regular season tonight with a Super Bowl rematch between the Seahawks and Patriots. Seattle came out on top in Super Bowl 60 thanks to a 29-13 win to capture their second title in franchise history. Now the two teams will kick off the 2026 season with a 7:20 P-M kick off tonight from Lumen Field. As for the Vikings, they’re week one opponent is the Green Bay Packers.

The MN State Fair drew almost two million people. (Falcon Heights, MN) — More than 1.9 million people attended the 2026 Minnesota State Fair. Fair officials say Labor Day attendance of 159,101 brought the 12-day total to 1,923,325. The fair also drew more than 38,000 entries in agricultural and creative competitions, with nearly $2.5 million in prize money awarded. The Miracle of Birth Center welcomed 160 newborn animals, while Grandstand events attracted more than 102,000 fans.

MN nursing home workers will receive a raise in minimum wage. (St. Paul, MN) — Thousands of Minnesota nursing home workers will be covered by new minimum wage requirements beginning Thursday. Starting September 10th, the statewide minimum wage will be $19 an hour for general nursing home workers, $22.50 for certified nursing assistants, $23.50 for trained medication aides, and $27 for licensed practical nurses.

A Monticello man has been charged with murdering his sister’s boyfriend. (Monticello, MN) — A Monticello man is charged with two counts of second-degree murder in the shooting death of his sister’s boyfriend. Prosecutors say Steven Stahlberg killed 57-year-old Daniel Ferdelman last week following a dispute inside the home they shared. Court documents say the confrontation began over a cat and escalated into a physical fight.

A former MN State trooper has been sentenced in a child pornography case. Getty Images (Minneapolis, MN) — A former Minnesota State Trooper will spend 27 years in federal prison for producing and distributing child pornography. 31-year-old Jeremy Plonski of Shakopee pleaded guilty last year after investigators said he produced 23 videos involving the sexual abuse of a minor. Prosecutors say Plonski was wearing his State Patrol uniform in some of the videos and later distributed the material online.
