As a child, I was obsessed with baby names, and spent many happy days inventing sibsets of eight hypothetical children. When I wasn’t doing that, I was often writing stories or novels with outrageously named characters. Some things last. I still love names, and I still write stories (my debut novel, Queen Mab, publishes this month in North America and the U.K.). But I’ve learned in the meantime that I can’t name my characters the way I named my babies.
