Prescribed burn operations aim to safeguard wildlife habitat
Prescribed burns may be conducted at six Conservation Collier Preserves between July and September. The ecological burns improve wildlife habitat and reduce fuel levels within the preserves’ fire-dependent forested portions. If weather conditions permit, burns will occur at: Caracara Prairie Preserve, 2320 Corkscrew Road, Immokalee, about 14 miles east of I-75. Pepper Ranch Preserve, 6315 Pepper Road, Immokalee. Nancy Payton Preserve, 1540 Blue Sage Drive, Golden Gate Estates.
Rowdies secure 2-0 victory over FC Naples in cup clash
The Tampa Bay Rowdies defeated USL League One’s FC Naples 2-0 on July 11 at Al Lang Stadium to keep their perfect record intact through all four rounds of the tournament’s group stage heading into the single-elimination quarterfinals round on Aug. 12. Pairings and hosting rights for all four quarterfinals matchups for the Prinx Tires USL Cup were to be determined in a random draw on July 13 (after press time), according to information on a Rowdies website.

Families in front of their Philcos tuned in to audio storytelling, highlighted by orchestration and sound effects. “Repertoire Radio Theatre,” led by Michael Troop, is an offshoot of “The Naples Players Radio Theatre” Podcast.

A July 8 public reading of the Declaration of Independence in front of Naples City Hall reflected a vastly different environment from that of the original reading 250 years ago. Instead of Col. John Nixon in velvet frock coat, breeches and tricorner hat, W. Douglas Gibbens, retired Command Sergeant Major, U.S. Army, did the honors in more rustic Revolutionary era gear — the garb of a trader and trapper.

Naples Bay Resort sold in $41.3 million property sale
Naples Bay Resort & Marina has changed hands as ownership shifted from the local developer who opened it in 2008 to a global hospitality company. Pyramid Global Hospitality, in a joint venture with Western & Southern Financial Group, bought the resort June 30 in back-to-back transactions totaling $41.25 million, according to Collier County recorded deeds.
