A field of 240 competitors and a welcoming country atmosphere helped ensure this year’s recent equestrian eventing competition, the REA Wagga Horse Trials at Narrandera, was a success. Well-established on the national calendar, the Trials featured horse and rider combinations, including juniors, that completed three phases: dressage, showjumping and cross-country, with different levels of competition depending on the abilities of the horse and rider as a team.

Narrandera Shire Council is pleased to advise that a local electrical contractor has been engaged to begin the Whiteway Lighting Upgrade Project. The existing lights along the Whiteway will be replaced, with works expected to be completed by the end of November 2026. Council will work closely with the contractor to schedule activities in a way that minimises disruption to businesses, residents and pedestrians throughout the project.

The Riverina and Murray Joint Organisation (RAMJO) has endorsed the development of a community-led advocacy campaign to raise public and political awareness of the impacts of water recovery and water reform on Basin communities.

Narrandera Shire Council has given the green light for a new highway service station to be built at Gillenbah during its August meeting last week. The council’s approval paves the way for the $3 million development lodged by Crewbuild, at the intersection of the Newell and Sturt highways.

Narrandera’s Dr Alarna Vrieling, whose PhD research into the adult children of Australian Vietnam veterans made headlines locally in August, has since been appointed to a national advisory role. Dr Vrieling has joined the Commissioner’s Advisory Group of the newly established Defence and Veterans’ Services Commission (DVSC), headed by Commissioner Penny McKay. The DVSC was established in September 2025 as a result of the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran’s Suicide.

Narrandera’s Jake Myers, driver of the legendary SICKO Mustang, will be taking part again this year at the Australian Diecast Expo 2026. The expo is being held on 29 to 30 August, at the Grand Pavilion, Rosehill Gardens in Parramatta, Sydney. It features expansive vendor spaces, exclusive model releases, and special guest Jimmy Liu, Director of Product Design for Hot Wheels The Myers name needs little introduction to the Australian burnout culture.

Narrandera Shire Council is reminding motorists that the Mail Zone located in front of the new Post Office on East Street, Narrandera, is reserved exclusively for authorised postal vehicles and is not for general parking. Council and Australia Post have observed a number of vehicles parking in this designated Mail Zone, with some motorists mistakenly believing the space is provided for customers visiting the Post Office.
