NeSI’s Collaborators – the University of Auckland, NIWA, the University of Otago, and Manaaki Whenua - Landcare Research – play an essential role in this national platform by investing in the infrastructure, employing NeSI team members at their institutions, and enabling NeSI to connect with and respond to the evolving needs of research communities. Save the Date for NZRSE 2025 - A Free, Virtual Conference for the Research Software Community
The NZ Research Software Engineering (NZRSE) Conference is back in 2025 and will be held online on 23-24 September. This year's event will be free to attend, making it easier for anyone in the research software, data, and systems communities to take part. Whether you're a researcher, developer, data scientist, infrastructure specialist, or work in a related space, NZRSE 2025 is a chance to connect, share, and learn from others across Aotearoa and beyond.
Workshop: RNA Sequencing
On 24 and 25 June, NeSI and Genomics Aotearoa will be delivering an online workshop on RNA Sequencing. The workshop will be taught over two mornings from 9:00am - 1:00pm NZT on both days. The focus of this workshop is to analyse RNA-seq data with the aim to identify differentially expressed genes. By the end of this workshop you will have a good understanding of how differentially expressed genes are identified and be able to choose the methods and tools that suit your experimental design.
Workshop: Introduction to R
On Tuesday, 17 June 2025 from 10:00am to 4:00pm, NeSI and Genomics Aotearoa will be co-hosting a workshop on Introduction to R. This online workshop is for New Zealand researchers interested in learning R and it functions as a prerequisite for the RNA-seq Data Analysis workshop, with the material providing a basis for many workflows in R. Some of the topics covered in the workshop are: An introduction to R and RStudio. R basics: The R language, reading data into R, storing data as objects.
Workshop: Visualisation with ggplot2
NeSI and Genomics Aotearoa will be delivering an online workshop on Visualisaion on ggplot2, on Wednesday 18th of June from 10:00am-4:00pm NZT. It is for New Zealand researchers interested in data visualisation with ggplot2. Good visualisation is about more than just writing the correct code. Visualisation is communication, and good communication requires thinking about how we as the scientist/data analyst/creator convey our message to the reader.

Francis Mondia, Senior HPC Cloud Platform DevOps Engineer I'm an experienced IT professional with over 14 years in infrastructure operations and system administration across both Windows and Linux environments. My background includes managing virtualized environments using VMware technologies, supporting production and development systems, and working across both OT and IT domains.

Advance your digital skills with the NeSI Team at ResBaz Aotearoa 2025
ResBaz Aotearoa 2025, a week-long series of digital research skills sessions delivered online, has opened registration. More than 40 free sessions will run from 30 June - 04 July, taught by researchers and specialists in research support. All Aotearoa researchers and postgraduate research students from ANY discipline are invited to look at the schedule and register for individual sessions.

We're excited to announce that NeSI’s new HPC and AI platforms are ready for existing NeSI users to dive in and start working. This migration brings a rich and high performance platform into the hands of researchers, backed by the same trusted and friendly NeSI team for support and training.
