NORFOLK — Monique Ketteler, the Print Services Coordinator at Northeast Community College, has honed her craft for the past 15 years ensuring that all mail and products at the college are of the upmost quality. Based in Union 73, the Northeast Print Shop works in conjunction with the college book and apparel store, The Hawk Shop. The shop produces various products, including yard signs, apparel, stickers, clothing, posters and bindings for textbooks.

NORFOLK – The hard-rock band, Night Ranger, was a staple in the music scene in the 1980’s, selling 17 million records since the band’s launch in 1982. Night Ranger has gone through many changes but still stays relevant in the classic rock industry to this day. The origins of the group trace back to Rubicon, a pop-funk band led by former Sly and the Family Stone saxophonist, Jerry Martini.

NORFOLK – The introduction of NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) has made significant changes to college football that many do not agree with. While there are financial benefits for teams and players, NIL could be a threat to the tradition of the sport. One of the immediate effects of the NIL has been its impact on recruiting. NIL allows players the ability to make money from their name, image and likeness. Although it seems beneficial, NIL has already made it more difficult to recruit players.

NORFOLK – One Direction, formed on The X Factor in 2010, quickly rose to global stardom, becoming one of the biggest pop acts of the decade. In just five years the band released five studio albums and went on four world tours, but where are they now? In 2010, One Direction joined forces on The X Factor, which was a Bristish singing competition show.

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The advancement of women’s hockey is recent, but has been years in the making. The creation of the Premiere Women’s Hockey League (PWHL), a new garment for players to wear and a coaching position being filled by a woman, mark a revolutionary history for the sport. The PWHL was established in 2023, but the road to get to the current league was long, and filled with many challenges. The journey started when the Canadian Women’s Hockey League (CWHL) was founded in 2007.

NORFOLK – On February 11, the Northeast Community College Future Business Leaders of America Collegiate Chapter hosted a young professional’s panel that featured area entrepreneurs, business owners and creatives in the lower level of Union 73. Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) is a career-technical organization that aims that providing students with professional business experience to aid them with post-secondary life.

NORFOLK – Controversy rose after Rep. Jasmine Crockett argued that illegal immigration is not a crime, but a “civil violation.” Her comments were part of a discussion on The Katie Phang Show, and they quickly sparked a debate over the legal issues around immigration laws. In the interview, Crockett responded to questions about illegal immigration, she explained that crossing the border illegally is criminal act but not a crime. “It is a civil violation,” Crockett said.

NORFOLK — Science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education has been at the forefront of education heavily within the past fifteen years. With the rise of STEM, the importance of the humanities has begun to fade because of society’s view and the cost of education with little payout. STEM education has appeared heavily in the American school system, so that young students could find high earning careers.

In 2021, the story of Gabby Petito took the world by storm. Petito — a New York native – had left home to travel across the country in van that was transformed into a fully functional home with her boyfriend Brain Laundrie.

NORFOLK — Throughout the past recent years, it has become quietly prominent that there is a literacy crisis in the United States because of the pandemic and the over usage of screens. We live in a society where a devastating number of adults cannot read and if they can, they struggle to comprehend what they have just covered. The National Literacy Institute reported telling statistics about the literacy rate in the United States in the fall of 2024.
