By Jacob Brown, Staff Writer Around this time two years ago, Newman University started a $3 million fundraising campaign that would pay for things like new turf and lighting for the soccer, softball and baseball fields at the school. At the time, Newman administrators said they hoped the money would be raised and the upgrades done in a year or two. Fast forward to spring 2026.

Everybody knows the classic “Seven Nation Army” by The White Stripes — “I’m going to Wichita” — or Glen Campbell’s 1968 “Wichita Linemen.” But there are other standout songs that mention Wichita that are lesser known but just as good.

By Aime Rutayisire, Sports Editor Students and staff from Newman University are invited to gather tonight for “Newman Night” at Equity Bank Park, where the minor league baseball team the Wichita Wind Surge play. The game will include odes to Newman, whose logo will be displayed on the scoreboard and whose fight song will be played by the public announcer. A Newman alum will throw out the first pitch, and some other distinguished alumni will be recognized.

By Vantage Staff For the fourth consecutive year, the staff of The Vantage has won the coveted All-Kansas award at the annual Kansas Collegiate Media conference. Staff members also earned 30 individual awards. The All-Kansas award is given each year to the student publication that judges determine to be the top in its category. The award comes with a plaque and bragging rights.

By Gustavo Dias Juliani, Staff Writer Newman’s Performance Hall will transform into a high-energy television studio on Friday for the school’s second Game Show Marathon. The student-led event will feature versions of four old-school game show games: “Match Game,” “Chain Reaction,” “Jeopardy” and “Family Feud.” The evening will start at 7 p.m. with a warm-up improv session by former members of the Sloppy Joes, Newman’s improv troupe.

By Victor Dixon, Staff Writer Over spring break, Newman’s Sloppy Joe Improv troupe, which is celebrating its 20th year, traveled to a competition in Nebraska and came back with inspiration and big plans for the rest of the semester. The Sloppy Joes were looking for a theatre or improv activity that they could travel to over spring break for team bonding and found an event in Omaha called Cards of Destiny. “The only issue was we knew very little about what the actual competition was.

The lineup includes "The Unconventional Therapist," about a therapist using controversial, "off-the-book" techniques to cure a patient, and "Intertwined Family," whose plot The Unconventional Therapist explores the dynamics of a new marriage as two families adapt to a blended life.

By Jacob Brown, Staff Writer With the semester winding down, only three intramural events remain, giving students a last opportunity to compete, connect and have fun. First up will be 3-on-3 basketball, which will start on Tuesday and continue April 21 and 24. Games will start at 7 p.m. each week in Fugate Gymnasium. Next up: Bubble soccer intramurals will happen on April 30 at the practice soccer field across from Carrocci.

I have always had pain in my joints that, when I was younger, was often attributed to growing pains. But when I stopped growing, there was no longer that explanation to fall back on, so I was left with one question: Why am I in so much pain?
