Based in Austin, Texas, she co-founded Accessible Housing Austin and has spent years with ADAPT fighting for community-based alternatives to nursing homes and institutions.

Erica Mones met Alexander Ruiz at a summer camp when they were 12 years old. I met Alexander Jolven Ruiz when we were both 12. He was just Alex to me. We attended the same camp, and he soon became my first crush, then my first love, then my best friend. We spent hours texting, Facebook messaging, sending voice messages back and forth, eating at local restaurants, and going to the movies. We laughed and fought and were intimate.
The Cushion That Finally Got My Pressure Injury Healing
Alex Ghenis has been battling a pressure wound since 2024, but the Aquila SofTech cushion has improved his healing while still letting him be active. In early 2024, an under-inflated Roho cushion bit me in the rear. Sitting right on my chair’s seat pan led to an under-the-skin decubitus on my sit bone. It erupted into a tunneling sore. In December 2024, I went to the ER when my caregiver couldn’t find the wound-packing rods he had placed the day before.
