He would not turn away from any opportunity to help his embattled nation. 23 May 1938 was a Monday — a bright spring day in Rotterdam. Just before lunch, Konovalets took a seat in the café at a table near a window overlooking the street. He was 46.
The Free World fiddles as Ukraine burns
Marco Levytsky, Editorial Writer It was one of the most devastating attacks on Kyiv and other cities since Russia launched its full-scale genocidal war against Ukraine over four years ago. During the night of August 4-5, 17 people were killed and 44 wounded in the capital region alone. Across the country 22 were killed and at least 85 injured. What is most alarming about this attack was that Russia fired 28 missiles and 115 drones at Kyiv and its region.

Lidia M. Wasylyn, Edmonton. The Bishop Budka Charitable Society held its annual general meeting on June 18, 2026 at the Chateau Louis Hotel. This was an opportunity to attend to the Society’s internal business as well as hear an excellent presentation by guest speaker Olesia Luciw-Andryjowycz. Society President Dr. Serge Cipko opened the AGM with a prayer asking for the intercession of Martyr Bishop Budka. The business portion of the meeting proceeded efficiently.
