The appellate court held that, the Senate has power to discipline any erring member and that, in the instant case, Natasha’s fundamental right was never breached as she alleged.

The Nigerian community in South Africa has again been thrown into mourning with Sunday’s killing of a member, Emeka Uzor. The trial of 11 defendants accused of causing the death of Arise News anchor, Somtochukwu Maduagwu, was stalled on Monday at the High Court in Jabi, Abuja, following their absence in court. The Commissioner of Police had charged Shamsu Hassan, Sani Surajo, Hassan Isah, Abubakar Alkamu and Abdulsalam Saleh with nine counts bordering on armed robbery and culpable homicide punishable by death.

The Federal High Court in Abuja, on Monday, rescheduled ruling on a motion filed by Binance Holdings Limited, seeking to void the substituted service of court documents served on it by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), to April 21. The development followed the absence of Justice Mohammed Umar in court. Although lawyers to the parties were in court, Justice Umar was said to be in another official engagement, hence, the case was adjourned.

The Police Command in Benue on Monday confirmed the kidnap of nine worshippers at Ojije in Utonkon, Ado Local Government Area of the state. The command’s spokesperson, DSP Edet Udeme, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the telephone in Makurdi that the victims were abducted at a night vigil. Udeme said the victims were worshipping at St. John’s Catholic Church, Ojije, when the incident occurred.

The Federal Government has approved six billion Naira for the three mega schools in Gombe State. The Minister of Regional Development, Alhaji Uba Ahmadu, made this known y in Kumo, headquarters of Akko Local Government Area, while inaugurating a 250-bed capacity hostel constructed by the North East Development Commission (NEDC). The minister said that the three schools were constructed by the NEDC.

Renowned writer and historian, Majemite Jaboro, has released “The Ikoyi Prison Narratives”, a book offering rare insight into the life, spirituality and political philosophy of Afrobeats legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti. The book documents conversations between Jaboro and Fela during their confinement at Ikoyi Prison, Lagos, between January and April 1993, while they awaited trial over a murder case.

There is heavy security presence at the National Assembly in Abuja as protesters gather at the entrance of the complex, insisting on the inclusion of “real-time electronic transmission” in the electoral amendment bill. The demonstrators, under the banner of “Occupy National Assembly”, said the Senate must be explicit in its provision for electronic transmission of election results, despite recent clarifications by the upper chamber denying it rejected the move.

One of the survivors of the deadly attack on Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, Danjuma Bagu, said he has not heard from his wife and six children, several days after gunmen stormed the community. The incident occurred last Tuesday. Community leaders and residents said on Sunday that the death toll had risen to 150, as search and rescue efforts were still ongoing.
