CLASS ELIMINATIONS For NHRA Racers in Super Stock and Stock, today is arguably the most important day of the season as today is the day that Class winners will be crowned at the 72nd annual Cornwell Quality Tools NHRA U.S. Nationals. An Indy class win is always worth celebrating, but this year there is a heightened sense of importance as each of the class champions will receive a special edition 75th annual diamond NHRA Wally trophy.

The 72nd annual Cornwell Quality Tools U.S. Nationals, September 4-7, will feature one of the largest contingents of Flexjet Factory Stock Showdown Series competitors in the history of the class. Over two dozen Chevrolet COPO Camaros, Ford Mustang Cobra Jets and Dodge Challenger Drag Paks fill the entry list for what is shaping up to be a historic race to celebrate NHRA’s 75th anniversary.

A year ago, Jordan Vandergriff was thankful for the opportunity to make a two-race return as a substitute Top Fuel driver. This year, he enters this weekend’s 72nd annual Cornwell Quality Tools NHRA U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park second in the Funny Car points, driving the Cornwell Tools Funny Car for NHRA legend John Force. In 2025, Vandergriff returned to the driver’s seat when he filled in for injured Top Fuel driver Shawn Reed.

Alexis DeJoria will have a cadre of friends and family cheering her on at the Cornwell Quality Tools NHRA U.S. Nationals, and she’s hoping the Night Stalker tribute paint scheme on her John Force Racing Bandero Café Chevrolet SS Funny Car will provide that little something extra to put her in the Indianapolis Raceway Park winner’s circle on Labor Day Monday. It was 1973 when John Force attempted to make his Funny Car debut in a rear-engine chain-drive entry at Irwindale (Calif.) Raceway.
