The New Hampton Planning and Zoning Commission met before the City Council on Monday night and approved all three items on its agenda with unanimous votes. The council agreed on all three — amending the zoning map, approving the preliminary plat for a new housing development and doing the same for another preliminary plat for the city’s southside industrial park. New Hampton may not have won its homecoming football game, but by golly, the Chickasaws definitely won the weather contest last week. In short, it didn’t rain on our parade. Or our pregame festivities. Or the game itself. Or the queen coronation.

New Hampton Community Schools Superintendent Erik Smith wanted to make one thing abundantly clear Monday. “This is only going to be a conversation,” Smith said when asked about the item “PPEL discussion” on that evening’s School Board meeting agenda. “No decisions are going to be made, but it’s kind of here’s where we’re at and is this an option?” And that’s just what it was — a conversation — during the board meeting.

The final score — 35-0 — admittedly was ugly, but as far as its coach was concerned, the New Hampton football team had some moments Friday night when it dropped its homecoming game and Class 2A, District 3 opener to unbeaten Crestwood. And the fact that the Cadets are, in a word, good — or in two words, very good — took a little of the sting away. Pound the rock and push the pile. That’s what the Nashua-Plainfield Huskies did on Thursday night in a key clash against its arch rival North Butler in a very important Class A, District 3 clash at Lloyd Koob Field. The result was a battering ram of a physical football game as N-P remained unscathed to rally for a 14-7 win over the visiting Bearcats. Daniel “Danny” Leo Deetz, age 62, of New Hampton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2026, at his home. Danny was born on Dec. 21, 1963, in New Hampton to Leo Deetz and Genevieve (Thompson) Sweitzer. He graduated from New Hampton High School in 1983. Danny worked at Beatrice Cheese in Fredericksburg, St. Joseph’s Hospital in New Hampton, Holschlag Bin Sales in New Hampton and was self-employed doing various odd jobs. He volunteered his time at the YMCA in Charles City.

Jerry Ptacek was called home to be with Jesus in the early morning hours of Friday, Sept. 18, 2026, at MercyOne New Hampton, at the age of 78. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2026, at Holy Family Parish in New Hampton, with the Rev. Ivan Nienhaus celebrating the Mass. Interment was held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Hampton. Friends were invited to greet the family from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 21, 2026, at Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in New Hampton.

Find a way. That’s what the Huskies did Friday night. When it was all said and done and the dust had cleared last week in Manly, the Nashua-Plainfield football team were winners and remained perfect on the season. It wasn’t easy for N-P in the third game of the season in what amounted to a rare occurrence for head coach Chase Sudol in his team’s final non-district game. Husky fans – get ready for some exciting volleyball action this Saturday. The Nashua-Plainfield volleyball squad will attempt to rack up the wins this weekend when the Huskies host their home invite. The weekend tournament will be an excellent opportunity for the Huskies to not only pick up some victories, but catapult themselves into the heart of a season that will soon pick up speed. What a difference one meet can make. The Nashua-Plainfield Huskies picked up a late addition last week Thursday by running in the Bob Scott Memorial Invite, held in West Union and hosted by North Fayette Valley. The reason was that the Huskies’ initially scheduled meet that same day at the Union Invite in LaPorte City was called off because of standing water on the golf course where the runners compete on.
