Year Two for the New Hampton Strength and Conditioning program means more than just a number. It’s dedication and commitment to not only wanting to get better – both mentally and physically – but working hard to make that individual and group progress a daily habit, that in the long run will pay off with big rewards when it matters the most.

The Turkey Valley Trojans may not have gotten as far as they would have liked to in the postseason this summer, but they finished the season strong. For a productive year, TV was honored with four selections on the all-UIC first team and one on the second team in a season that saw the Trojans go 15-20 overall and 12-10 in the UIC Small Division, which was second place to conference champ Kee High (29-11, 18-4).

All-time greats at any prep baseball program all have one thing in common – they get the job done. For Turkey Valley senior Logan Busta – that couldn’t be any more true. Busta, a definite all-time great over In Jackson Junction and now a multiple school-record holder for his Trojans, was commended for another fine season – his last in a TV uniform – with a first-team selection on the Upper Iowa Conference Small Division all-conference teams that were announced recently.

Her coach couldn’t call her and deliver the news because it’s “dead week” — when coaches are prohibited from having contact with their athletes — so as Maici Weber came downstairs Monday, she had absolutely no idea why her mother said “congratulations.” “I looked at her and said, ‘For what?’ And then she told me I had made all-state,” the New Hampton senior softball catcher said with a laugh.

We hate to be “that guy” and bring it up but we’ll do it anyway. Kids, three weeks from this coming Monday, you’re heading back to school. And teachers? You don’t even have that much summertime left. But a walk through both the New Hampton High and New Hampton Middle Schools on Tuesday morning told the story. Carpets were clean, and floors were shiny — two signsthatthe school district’s “low-key” summer is almost over.

Water is a precious commodity. That’s why business owner Jonas Schwickerath – the CEO and manager of New Hampton Transfer and Storage – made a heartfelt pitch to the county Monday morning in an attempt to receive more funding for a water loop project that can help expand and grow his operation.

Judy Kay Hoy, age 77 of Nashua, died Saturday, July 25, 2026, at her daughter’s home, surrounded by her family. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory/Olson Chapel in Nashua with the Rev. Rob Williams officiating. Interment was held at Cedar View Cemetery, rural Ionia, with Herbie Decker, Terry Decker, Brian Janssen, Tanner Hoy, LaMont Hoy and Riley Butters serving as pallbearers.

Members of the New Hampton Lions Club took one look at the forecast for Friday and knew there had to be a better way to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the chapter’s founding. So instead of holding their free sweetcorn feed on Friday, the Lions are going to do it today (Thursday) at Mikkelson Park Shelter No. 5, whichis located near the softball diamonds.

Thomas “Tom” Gerald Tierney, age 84 of New Hampton, died Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at Mayo Clinic Hospital, Methodist Campus, in Rochester, Minnesota. A Memorial Mass was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at Holy Family Parish, New Hampton, with the Rev. Chris Podhajsky celebrating the Mass. Inurnment was held at Calvary Cemetery, New Hampton.

Dorothy Jean Schmitz, age 83 of Ionia, died Thursday, July 23, 2026, at Whispering Willows Care Facility in Fredericksburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 3, 2026, at Holy Family Parish in New Hampton with the Rev. Chris Podhasky celebrating the Mass. Interment will follow at St. Boniface Cemetery in Ionia with Tim Glaser, Will Glaser, Josh Praska, Adam Praska, Seth Praska, Garrett Praska and Michael Schmitz serving as pallbearers.
