New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) is a public research university in Newark, New Jersey with a degree-granting satellite campus in Jersey City. Founded in 1881 with the support of local industrialists and inventors especially Edward Weston, NJIT opened as Newark Technical School in 1885 with 88 students. The school grew into a classic engineering college – Newark College of Engineering – and then with the addition of a School of Architecture in 1973, into a polytechnic university that now hosts five colleges and one school. As of fall 2021 the university enrolls about 11,900 students from 83 countries, 2,500 of whom live on its main campus in Newark's University Heights district. Source

NJIT men's swimming and diving senior Zac Kuzak and women's soccer senior Mikayla Balio have been nominated for the 2025-26 America East Man and Woman of the Year awards, the conference office announced Thursday. The honor recognizes senior or graduate student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in academics, athletics, leadership and community service. Each of the America East's nine member institutions nominated one male and one female student-athlete.

The America East Conference selected three finalists per gender for the prestigious honor. The 2025-26 America East Man and Woman of the Year winners will be announced June 2 at the conference's annual awards dinner.

Outstanding Senior Adam Mariano '26 performed classical music at NJIT while serving as president of the electrical engineering honors society and maintaining a 4.0 GPA. Curiosity, an interest in computers and an affinity for problem-solving brought Adam Mariano '26 to New Jersey Institute of Technology, leading them to a major in computer engineering.
