A state judge has ordered Sandoval County to redraw its commission district boundaries, ruling the county’s 2021 map failed to consult tribal nations and didn’t give Native American and Hispanic voters an equal say. 1st Judicial District Judge James Lawrence Sanchez ruled for the Democratic Party of Sandoval County, the Pueblo of San Felipe, the Pueblo of Jemez and several individual plaintiffs, in a case filed in Bernalillo County District Court in 2022.

Federal judge sides with NM in fight over voter data
By Jesse Jones, New Mexico Political Report — New Mexico voters’ Social Security numbers and birth dates will remain protected — for now — after a U.S. district judge dismissed a U.S. Justice Department lawsuit seeking access to the personal information. U.S. District Judge Judith C. Herrera ruled Tuesday that the Justice Department failed to show a factual basis for demanding New Mexico voters’ unredacted personal information, including Social Security numbers and birth dates.
