It's that time of the year again, and all around the world the fog goes thick and strange sounds can be heard echoing through the night. Spooky Season is upon us. In many of the places No Pro haunts, this time of year brings a (dark) harvest of immersive experiences of all kinds: from home haunts to theme park takeovers, experiments in personal terror to family friendly celebrations of decorated gourds.

While Katrina Lat is on the ground for us at the Venice Film Festival's now legendary Immersive showcase we're still feeling some mighty levels of FOMO. At least for the pieces on this list we haven't had the pleasure to catch in secret yet. What follows are a baker's dozen picks from the In Competition section for what we're most looking forward to experiencing - for the first or in some cases second time - both at the festival (in the case of Kat) and beyond (the rest of us, especially Noah).

Venice Immersive is underway, and while we're cooking up one of our legendary FOMO guides AND on the ground coverage from Katrina Lat we're please to share an exclusive trailer reveal for the intriguing video installation Ulrica. The installation suspends video projections within water "zorbs" with a soundtrack performed live.

This week we've got three reviews for you, two of productions which have already run their course in L.A. and NYC (the curse of pop-ups) and one which is just settling in to a strangely parched London.

one step at a time like this' Transmission: Into The Dark plays at the 2026 Edinburgh Festival Fringe Martin Gimenez and Thomas Jancis report from the Edinburgh Festival Fringe on what they've been up to, and Martin interviews Sauna Theatre co-founder James Grieve along with Clair Korobacz and Julian Rickert of Australian theatre company one step at a time like this. Plus: Noah with a few words of thanks about the New York Immersive Invitational.

Director Marissa Pattullo had long been on on radar as an actor before her directing debut with last year's site-responsive production of 5 Lesbians Eating A Quiche ( ), a debut that impressed us so much we asked her to take part in this year's Los Angeles Immersive Invitational representing New Forms LA.
