“Can I tell you a secret?” the man with brown skin asked me yesterday as we were peering into the freezer, staring intently at the numerous choices before us. “Of course you can,” I said. “The price of this ice cream on sale today is exactly what it was in 1994 when I first discovered it. Every day after school, I would go to the store, spend my three dollars and ten cents, and get myself a pint of Ben and Jerry’s.

I was attacked by a dog when I was 30 years old. I opened the front door of a house I had been walking into for over a decade, and a new-to-me dog who was living there bit my thigh right through the thick cotton skirt I was wearing before I could even process what was happening. The wound was pretty deep, but somehow barely hurt at all, and the group of us who were gathering went on with our night after bandaging me up.

“I love you, Nora,” she said as I was leaving her check-out line. Her name is a derivative of mine, which she and I were delighted to discover as she rang up my groceries on June 9th. The guidance for that time, during the window of the conjunction of Venus and Jupiter in Cancer, had been to “let the sweetness in”.

Summer Solstice Faerie Flower Magic As the saying goes, “You can take the woman out of Ojai, but you can’t take Ojai out of the woman.” I was at the Evanston Farmers’ Market yesterday morning, buying an abundance of summer greens, alliums, vegetables, tomatoes, and, specifically for the Solstice, cherries and a big bunch of flowers grown by Danika of Lake Breeze Organics, a faerie farmer if there ever was one.
