A man in his 40s was left in a critical condition following a collision in Co Clare on Sunday. The man was involved in a single vehicle crash, on the R352 at Codyke, East Clare on Sunday evening last. Both Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene, and the man was taken via ambulance to University Hospital Limerick for treatment, after suffering serious injuries, and remains in a critical condition at the time of writing.

Troy Parrott could be in line to make his La Liga debut on Tuesday night, with the Republic of Ireland striker expected to be included in the Real Betis squad for their trip to Valencia. The 24-year-old completed his move to the Spanish club last week but was not part of the matchday squad for Friday’s 1-0 victory over Real Sociedad.

Gardaí have warned that wrong-way driving is "out of control" as the number of incidents rise by 32% in 2026. Data released to The Irish Times shows that cars have been detected to be driving the wrong way on the motorway 62 times this year. The data recorded by Transport Infrastructure Ireland's Motorway Operations Control Centre shows that seven incidents were recorded in August alone.

A father has landed himself in hot water after leaving his young son on Mount Fuji for several hours as he continued his hike. The father reportedly left his son, 7, sitting on a bench on Mount Fuji in foggy and rainy conditions, with just a soft drink and a snack, situated at over 2,000m.

The nationwide hosepipe ban has been extended until the end of September in Carlow, Cork, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Limerick, Meath, Offaly, Tipperary, Waterford, Wexford and Wicklow. Taoiseach Micheál Martin is to join a meeting hosted by Ukraine's President, Volodymyr Zelenksyy of the country's European allies in Kyiv as they celebrate independence day, amid its ongoing conflict with Russia. The meeting, which has been dubbed 'Coalition of the Willing', will be chaired by the leaders of Britain, France, and Germany, including Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, for his first international trip since taking office at Westminster. The Taoiseach is expected to join the meeting online.

An Irish MEP has warned that TikTok could face a Europe-wide ban. Fianna Fáil Dublin MEP Barry Andrews stated that a Europe-wide ban of the social media platform could be possible as it was called to face the Oireachtas to answer questions regarding the dangerous and illegal content displayed on its platform. The social media giant declined requests to meet with the Oireachtas media committee.

Gardaí are treating the death of a Brazilian woman in Limerick as a murder-suicide following the discovery of the body of a man suspected of killing her in Cork, RTÉ reports. Jady Cristine Pereira Rosa, a 33-year-old law graduate from Brazil, was found dead in an apartment on Lower Cecil Street in Limerick on Friday morning. It is understood that friends of Ms Pereira Rosa had been waiting outside the building for her before raising the alarm when she did not come out.

Ireland’s rental market remains under severe pressure, with the average monthly market rent for a two-bedroom home reaching €2,204 despite a significant slowdown in quarterly rent growth. The latest Daft.ie rental report shows that almost 2,400 properties were available to rent nationwide on August 1, 5pc more than at the same point last year. The headline increase, however, conceals a widening divide between Dublin and the rest of the country.
