Beginning in the 1940s, diners in New York City were consistently owned and operated by people of Greek-descent. They were both a familiar and beloved institution in the city and beyond. In 1976, photojournalism student Kay Zakariasen visited many of them to interview and photograph the Greek immigrants who worked there. In 2022, Zakariasen donated the photographs and interview transcripts to the Library where they are held in the Manuscripts and Archives Division.
