After more than a decade on Broadway in The Book of Mormon, the Tisch alum reflects on how NYU shaped her artistry and led to her debut album. Photo by Alex Leyva At NYU, Niambi Ra was not just studying performance. She was already building the sound that would become Stellar Nebula, her debut album. She graduated in 2014 and went on to spend more than a decade on Broadway, including a lead role in The Book of Mormon.

Through AfroBeats, Dancehall and hip-hop classes, dance instructor Janelle Young has built a space where students find confidence, connection and joy in their bodies. Inside the dance studio at 404 Fitness on a Saturday afternoon, students follow along in a beginner hip-hop class as instructor Janelle Young moves through the choreography. She pauses to reset the music, joke with the class and start again as students follow her movements in the wall-length mirrors.
