(AP Photo/Jens Meyer, File) By JESSICA DAMIANO The Associated Press Few garden plants attract as much admiration as roses. They’re as beautiful in the garden as they are in a vase, and their flowers are almost universally a symbol of love. Unfortunately, they don’t always grow without challenges. Wilting, infestations and infections are not uncommon.
Managing aphids, a common garden insect
Aphids feeding on a plant. (Photo Courtesy of MelindaMyers.com) By Melinda Myers If you garden, you have likely encountered aphids on trees, shrubs or other garden plants in your landscape. Identifiable by their small teardrop-shaped bodies with cornicles, the two tail pipe-like structures that protrude from their back end. They come in a variety of colors, with or without wings, and some like the cabbage and wooly aphids are covered with a gray or white waxy substance.

IT’S GEEK TO ME: Take control of how and when Windows reboots
Jeff Werner is a software engineer and has been writing this column since 2007. Geek Note: Continuing last week’s theme of “Unfinished Business” I have the following supplement to offer. In Issue #983, May 24, 2026, reader William R. was asking why his system rebooted, seemingly randomly, and I showed him how to use Windows Event Viewer to view the logs that Windows maintains about such events. I concentrated on that, knowing there was far more wisdom to impart.

NUGGETS: A pattern Jesus set
Jannie Linney is pastor at Hosanna Christian Fellowship in Stanton. By Jannie Linney For some time now I have been studying where Jesus taught us patterns of His life. I saw where He did warfare, He dealt with demonic powers, teaching on really believing, walking in the spirit and not in the flesh, doing the do’s of the word and not doing the don’ts. I believe He showed me, that if we do all the do’s in the Bible, we don’t have time to do the don’ts.
YANDELL: Today’s little boy is tomorrow’s grandfather
Van Yandell is a retired industrial arts teacher, evangelist and missionary. By Van Yandell Ephesians 6:4 (KJV): “And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.” As we grow older we realize the days get longer but the years seem shorter. Time becomes precious and seems to be limited by our thoughts, habits and attitudes. We understand time has placed us in bondage. We are slaves to time.
