Sidewalk Project Will Connect Mills Community To Foley Walkways
Foley, Ala. — (OBA) — Foley is moving ahead with a sidewalk project. The work focuses on the Mills Community in west Foley. City officials said the route will connect to other walkways and lead to a planned community park. Mills residents voted in 2023 to annex their community into Foley. Mayor Ralph Hellmich said city officials have been planning both the sidewalk and the park since then. The Foley City Council recently voted to solicit bids for the project.
Chef Robbie Nicolaisen, The Hound, Earns Spot in National Seafood Contest
Orange Beach, Ala. — (OBA) — The Sweet Grown Alabama Seafood Cook-Off drew a large crowd to The Wharf for a night celebrating Alabama seafood and the people who help produce it. The event honored chefs, fishermen, farmers, and other producers from across the state. Chefs competed by preparing dishes that showcased seafood from Alabama waters, giving attendees a chance to see culinary talent up close while highlighting the local industry behind it.
Orange Beach Lady Makos Softball Team is a 6-Time State Champs
Oxford, Ala. – (OBA) – Among Alabama softball teams and consecutive state titles, the Orange Beach Lady Makos stand taller than any program. Orange Beach completed its sixth straight tournament by going undefeated at the state tournament site here on May 18-19.
Orange Beach Council To Review Federal Grant For Safety Action Plan
Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – Orange Beach will utilize a grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to help develop a safety action plan in the city. The funds will come from the department’s Safe Streets and Roads for All grant program and will require a city match. The Orange Beach City Council will discuss the grant during the work session portion of a joint regular/work session meeting on May 19 at 5 p.m. in council chambers at City Hall.
Canal Road Cut-Off Plan Could Reshape Beach Traffic For Good
One of several topics covered by Kennon at the city’s May 6 town hall included a spur of a road to take two lanes south from Canal Road near Big Mike’s Steakhouse to a meeting with State Route 161. From there, the stream of traffic will continue to flow with two lanes of traffic heading south to the State Route 182 or beach road. “It is paid for,” Kennon told the standing-room-only crowd on May 6.
Lady Makos Move One Win Away From Alabama Softball History
Oxford, Ala. – (OBA) – Orange Beach is poised to make history with a chance to claim a sixth straight Alabama softball state championship. The Lady Makos struggled at times at the plate, got stellar pitching from MK McMullan, and pounded out timely hits in two big innings to go 3-0 on the day and a date in the championship round to complete the historic sweep. First pitch on May 19 at Oxford’s Choccolocco Park is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the softball stadium at the complex.
