Edmonton: A 27-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly stabbing two worshippers at an Edmonton gurdwara in the early hours of Friday, leaving both victims injured, Canadian police said. The suspect’s identity and the motive behind the attack have not yet been disclosed. The incident took place at the large Nanaksar Gurdwara at about 5am local time.

Bhubaneswar: A major fire broke out at the Unit-I market in Bhubaneswar on Saturday morning, reducing at least two shops to ashes and causing extensive damage to other structures. According to sources, the fire erupted in one of the shops and the flames quickly spread to the neighbouring outlets. While two shops were completely destroyed in the incident, there was no report of injury to anyone. On being informed, teams from Bhubaneswar Fire Station reached the spot promptly.

Talcher: At least five workers sustained severe burn injuries after an explosion at NTPC’s Kaniha plant in Odisha’s Anugola district in the early hours of Saturday. According to preliminary information, a massive explosion took place at the coal bunker (B) of the plant located in Pallahara area when work was in progress at the site. The explosion left at least five workers grievously injured. They were immediately rushed to a hospital in Talcher for treatment.

Kyiv: A Russian drone assault on a crowded shopping centre in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kryvyi Rig killed 16 people and injured 130 others on Friday, AFP reported. President Volodymyr Zelensky denounced the strike as “cynical and despicable”, saying the attack had targeted civilians in his hometown amid a sharp increase in Russian bombardments of Ukrainian cities.

Ranchi: A protest by students in Ranchi turned tense on Friday after JMM workers allegedly tried to snatch the effigies they were carrying, prompting the demonstrators to chase the fleeing workers and recover them. Members of the JPSC-JSSC Reforms Manch were marching towards Albert Ekka Chowk, where they planned to burn effigies of Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

New Delhi: Confusion over Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s proposed visit to India increased on Friday after Rashtrapati Bhavan withdrew a notice about cancelling Saturday’s Change of Guard ceremony. The ceremony was earlier scheduled to be cancelled to allow a full rehearsal for Rahman’s ceremonial welcome. The proposed visit is linked to the BRICS summit, which will be held on September 12 and 13.

Bhubaneswar: At least three workers were injured after the roof of an under-construction gate collapsed at the College of Agriculture under Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) in Bhubaneswar on Friday. According to information, several workers were engaged in casting the roof of the main gate when the centring suddenly gave way. Sources said over ten workers were engaged at the site when the mishap took place and three of them allegedly sustained injuries.

Mumbai: Arjun Rampal and longtime partner Gabriella Demetriades have tied the knot in Goa after several years of togetherness. According to PTI, Arjun and Gabriella formalised their marriage at the Sub-Registrar’s office in Mapusa, North Goa, in the presence of close friends.
