Oldham County Detention Center staff sometimes joke about “Mike-isms,” the slice-of-life maxims often used by Jailer Mike Simpson. One such “Mike-ism” advises that one must first learn to be a student in order to grow as an effective leader. “Working in this environment and learning this industry, you are the student,” Simpson said last week during an interview at the Oldham County Detention Center. “It's ok to be the student, figure things out and learn based off years of service [and] experience.
