Right Before I Go Review

Financial Times Weekend 2026 Festival Review
Yet another September means another Financial Times Weekend Festival, and after having a blast the last two years, I was excited to return to this one‑day celebration of talks, tastings and a bit of celeb spotting. Held on Saturday 5 September in the grounds of Kenwood House, the day began with security, tote‑bag selection (I chose the one declaring “London is moving, beautiful and purely human”), coffee, a scan of the lunch options and, naturally, wine tasting before 11am. No regrets.

Memory takes centre stage in Krapp’s Last Tape — and so does the fragility of remembering. Watching an actor with Alzheimer’s perform a play about memory is unlike any theatrical experience I’ve had. Beckett’s one‑act monologue, written in 1958, follows Krapp as he marks his birthday alone, listening to recordings he has made each year. Now aged 69, he plays back a tape from three decades earlier and prepares what will be his final entry, reflecting on love, death, work, and life.
