Combining the professional elements of direct patient care, diagnostic ability, and procedural expertise – Interventional Echocardiography (IE) is now widely regarded, but not yet formally recognized, as a sub-specialty of medicine.

A surrogate of right ventricular–pulmonary arterial coupling, the ratio of tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE) to pulmonary artery systolic pressure (PASP) has been associated with outcomes across a wide range of cardiac pathologies and interventions.
