The final season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel debuted recently, and I’ve been rewatching the entire series in the background as I do other things, and in Season 1, episode 5, Midge, an aspiring comedian, bombs for the first time, after previously performing a handful of brief (and drunken) impromptu sets, and she asks her manager, Susie: M: I bombed? But I’m funny. S: You bombed. Everybody bombs. M: But I’ve seen Rickles five times. He’s never bombed. The guys that go on Jack Paar, they never bomb.

Friends, I apologize for my scattered newsletter presence lately. I’m still struggling with post-COVID/Long COVID fatigue, and my teaching job has demanded a lot of my time with midterm grading, etc. However, it is National Poetry Month, and as a poet, I feel like it’s my duty to write about and share with you some poetry.

Well, I have no excuse, but I simply completely forgot about my newsletter last weekend and this week until Thursday. I blame lingering COVID brain fog and my greatly depleted stamina, paired with returning from Spring Break and that scramble of midterm grading. I’m sorry! To be honest, I do not have much to say right now.

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day, if that’s a thing you observe. I have some Irish heritage, but it’s not a holiday I’ve ever gotten into much since I was in my mid-20s. I did have a wonderful March 17th when I lived in Paris, though, which has a surprising number of Irish pubs. I can’t say I actually remember too much of what I did, but I know I had fun, which seems about right for St. Paddy’s day.

For many years in my youth, I wanted to be a filmmaker, and an actor, and I spend much of my free time watching movies. My best cinema years were when I lived in Paris, I went to the movies several times every weekend, and loved all the options for films from all over the world.
