Our members work for the Ontario government, inside community colleges, for the LCBO, in the health care sector, and they are employed in a wide range of community agencies within the broader public sector. These proposals aim to address the priorities that the Correctional Bargaining Unit set through the demand set survey. You can review the priorities in Lock Talk #1. It is our goal to bring back a negotiated collective agreement to the membership for a ratification vote that offers meaningful gains to this division.
College Faculty bargaining update: Faculty have a better plan for our colleges
Bargaining Bulletin 14 After nearly five months at the bargaining table, one thing rings clear: any plan that carries us forward will be shaped by faculty proposals, not imposed by the CEC. On October 28th, we tabled a comprehensive offer of settlement. While our side showed significant movement on key issues, the CEC maintained all but one of their 30+ original concessions.
Celebrating the Success of the OPS Unified Divisional Conference
The OPS Unified Divisional Conference this past weekend was a remarkable experience for all involved. “I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the incredible delegates, alternates, and attendees who turned this gathering into a celebration of possibility, courage, and unity. Your energy and determination illuminated the space, proving the strength we possess when we are Unified for a common cause” said newly re-elected CERC Chair Amanda Usher.
Nov. 21: Funeral procession and memorial for the Ontario Science Centre at Queen’s Park
On Thursday, November 21, we invite you to join members of OPSEU/SEFPO Local 549 for a funeral procession and memorial service at Queen’s Park to mourn the untimely and unnecessary closing of the Ontario Science Centre at its location on Don Mills Road.
OPSEU/SEFPO in the news: “Workers worry, parents sound alarm as Craigwood Youth Services in Ailsa Craig ships out kids”
CBC News has reported on the removal of all remaining youth from the secure custody youth facility at Craigwood Youth Services near London Ontario due to lack of staff – after years of inadequate funding by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services. The youth were sent six hours away to Sault Ste. Marie, hundreds of kilometres from their families and communities. The front line workers at the centre are members of OPSEU/SEFPO Local 166.

Mike Greene ( Region 1 OPS Unified Mobilizer) Mike Greene is a Child and Youth Worker at the Child and Parent Resource Institute in London, which is a tertiary level children’s treatment facility. The Child and Parent Resource Institute provides specialized assessment, treatment and targeted interventions for children and youth with complex special needs and mental health challenges. Mike is currently the Local 112 President and has held this position since 2017.
Save Our Sites or Fill Your Morgues: Unions Release Joint Letter Urging Ford Government to Reverse Deadly Closures of Supervised Consumption Sites in Ontario
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Toronto, ON – On Wednesday afternoon, provincial union leaders released a joint letter calling on Premier Ford and Minister Sylvia Jones to reverse course on the announced closures of supervised consumption sites (SCSs) across Ontario, as well as the prevention of any new SCS opening or existing services relocating. The shared appeal is endorsed by unions and labour associations collectively representing over 1 million workers provincially.
