Indigo Light Prevents Myopia in Animal Model
Exposure to indigo light prevented myopia in a tree shrew model with human-like visual characteristics, according to research led by Cincinnati Children’s and the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). The study, published online August 18 in Cell Reports Medicine, focused on short-wavelength indigo light, which is abundant in sunlight but is poorly represented in standard white LED lighting.
Medicare Rates Set for Nighttime IOP Device
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has established final 2026 Medicare payment amounts for Balance Ophthalmics’s Fsyx Ocular Pressure Adjusting Pump (OPAP) and associated goggles, with the rates taking effect October 1. Under HCPCS Level II code E2403, the Fsyx pump will be reimbursed as a capped rental at approximately $1,352.58 per month for months 1 through 3 and $1,014.44 per month for months 4 through 13.
DBM Study Shows Corneal Resolution in NK Patients
DefEye Inc. announced in a press release the publication of a peer-reviewed article highlighting the use of Biovance Ocular decellularized basement membrane (DBM) in almost 1,000 patients suffering from neurotrophic keratitis (NK). WCO, Alcon, IACLE Partner to Advance Dry Eye Education
The World Council of Optometry (WCO) and Alcon dry eye initiative is partnering with the International Association of Contact Lens Educators (IACLE) to help university instructors easily access the program’s range of digital learning tools including the WCO Alcon Dry Eye Wheel and the Dry Eye Management Map. IACLE members can gain direct access from the IACLE Teaching Online Platform (IACLETOP) learning management system.

According to a company press release, Zeiss Clinic 360 combines diagnostic and medical data into a comprehensive patient view that allows clinicians to evaluate disease progression, support treatment decisions, and improve workflow efficiency.
Phase 3 LUGANO Trial of Duravyu for Wet AMD Misses Primary Endpoint
EyePoint reported top-line results from the phase 3 LUGANO trial of Duravyu (vorolanib intravitreal insert) 2.7 mg in patients with wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The study missed its primary endpoint in the full dataset but met several secondary endpoints. The primary endpoint assessed change from baseline in best-corrected visual acuity compared with on-label 2 mg aflibercept. Duravyu did not achieve noninferiority in the full analysis.

Tarsus to Acquire Alkeus, Adding Stargardt Disease Therapy Gildeuretinol
Tarsus Pharmaceuticals said it has agreed to acquire Alkeus Pharmaceuticals, adding the investigational oral retinoid gildeuretinol (formerly ALK-001) and a phase 3 program in Stargardt disease to its expanding ophthalmic pipeline. According to Tarsus, the deal strengthens its presence in retina following its previous acquisition of iRenix Medical. Gildeuretinol is an investigational oral therapy designed to reduce the accumulation of vitamin A dimers while preserving the normal visual cycle.
