Well, simply put, my family love to travel; my husband Huw and I used to be journalists covering both the cruise and hotel industries. In 2015, while on a pre-inaugural media cruise, we spotted a new market trend towards families taking cruise holidays, and cruise lines designing ‘family friendly’ ships… so we initially set up a blog called KidzCruises, to focus on this specific sector of the cruise industry. Our children are now 15 (2006 born) and 13 years old (2008) – they have been on cruises with us before, so the topic was one we were all very interested in.
But as with all websites, over time you diversify and head in directions you hadn’t initially intended. With KidzCruises this happened after joining the Parent Blogging and Family Travel Blogging communities. These connections led to opportunities for us, as a family, to experience events, activities, and land (as well as water)-based breaks and holidays. We also find it great fun to review gadgets and gifts … all items that are of interest to our main audience of course (that being UK-based parents). As a result of this widened focus to encompass everything ‘family travel’, we relaunched our blog as PackThePJs in February 2017.
We are truly a ‘family collaborative blog’. Source

Everyday tasks like school runs and grocery shopping can sideline retirement planning. This delay makes saving feel more overwhelming and easier to ignore. According to Retirement Savings Standards, a couple would require around £45,400 each year for a comfortable retirement. While this covers expenses like an annual holiday or running a car, this figure serves as a flexible starting benchmark rather than a strict requirement.
Moving into a new home? These interior upgrades are worth making
Is your family moving? How exciting! A new home allows you to make improvements before everyday life gets in the way and is an excellent time to get to work. Whether you have bought an older property or are moving into a new-build home, the first few weeks are often the easiest time to update interiors before every room fills with furniture, belongings and, well, kids. Rather than planning costly renovations straight away, focus on practical upgrades that improve how your home looks and works.
Creating a fresher, more comfortable family home
Fresh air changes how a home feels. It makes everything lighter, surfaces feel clearer, and it’ll help your mind stay sharper. As homes in the UK become better insulated and more thoughtfully designed, ventilation has edged into focus too. It now sits alongside lighting and layout as something worth planning, not fixing after the fact. Here’s why it’s worth paying attention to. Ventilation is simply the movement of air in and out of your home, but it carries more weight than it sounds.
Honouring Change: Why new chapters deserve to be celebrated
There are some huge milestones in our lives. First car. First home. First job. So much change. So many firsts. But there are so many smaller ones too, each deserving its own little celebration. It could be going into a career you’ve always wanted to pursue or stepping away from part of your life that no longer fits.
What’s a multi-generational holiday and does it work?
Travelling as a family has taken on a broader meaning in recent years and more and more are swapping separate getaways for trips that bring children, parents and grandparents together in one place. For many, a shared holiday offers something increasingly difficult to find at home: uninterrupted moments with the people who matter most. A multi-generational holiday brings together family members from different age groups on the same trip.
5 playful ways to teach your children how to bake
Children love getting involved in the kitchen if you just let them! Life is better when they feel included, and baking gives them plenty of opportunities to explore, create and contribute. If you want to start teaching them the ropes, it is all about making the experience welcoming, enjoyable and part of everyday family life. Baking offers a natural way to slow down and spend time together without the distractions and time sensitivity that cooking sometimes has.
How to make family travel traditions that last
Travelling together gives families something increasingly valuable: dedicated time. Shared adventures create space for conversations that might not happen at home, while new surroundings encourage curiosity and teamwork. Over time, these moments become part of a family’s story, shaping memories that children carry well into adulthood. A simple travel tradition can turn an ordinary break into something that feels much more meaningful year after year.
4 ways to create a relaxing retreat for kids at home
We might not always see it that way, but children’s lives can feel surprisingly busy. School, hobbies, screen time and packed family schedules all compete for attention, making a calm corner at home more valuable than ever. The good news is that creating one does not require a major renovation. Thoughtful choices around colour, layout and comfort can already transform an ordinary bedroom or spare space into somewhere calm and welcoming.
Dog Boarding Checklist: Prepare for Your Pet’s First Stay
Leaving your dog at a boarding facility for the first time can bring you the freedom you need to travel, but many pet parents get nervous as well. Fortunately, a little planning can make the experience much easier for both of you. Preparing ahead of time helps your dog settle into a new environment, keeps their routine as consistent as possible, and gives the boarding staff everything they need to provide excellent care.
Gardeners’ World Live & Good Food Summer: A Busy Day at the NEC
On Father’s Day the children (and I) decided to treat Huw to a day out at the NEC. After a very early 6:30am start, we arrived at our pre-booked EV car park in time to be shuttled to the Gardeners’ World Live & Good Food Summer event for 9:30am (ish). It was already very busy, and the weather was heating up outside.
