On September 4, 2026, Inside Climate News reported Energy Transfer/Sunoco filed a lawsuit in Commonwealth Court in April seeking to preempt criminal charges by Pennsylvania Attorney General David Sunday over a jet fuel pipeline spill in Bucks County by declaring part of the state Clean Streams Law unconstitutional. Energy Transfer’s objection to the law: Parties could be found guilty of an environmental crime even if their actions are accidental.

On September 4, the Department of Environmental Protection announced it has entered into a consent order and agreement with Shell Chemicals Appalachia, LLC in which Shell formally acknowledged that the company exceeded total emission limitations for air contaminants and violated other environmental requirements at the Shell Petrochemical Plant in Beaver County.
