by Michael Burch We live in a city filled with the echoes of the past. Many of us walk these ancient streets every day, giving little thought to our city’s rich history. This is understandable, for many aspects of the past in America are not pleasant, especially if you are of black ancestry.

By Tony Sorrentino To the residents of Parkside, It is an honor to introduce myself as the new CEO of the Fairmount Park Conservancy, and a delight to call West Fairmount Park my new office. I am excited and proud to join you in the ongoing work of honoring, activating, and preserving this incredible landscape. My hope is that this message marks the beginning of a long, collaborative relationship—one rooted in trust, transparency, and a shared belief in this neighborhood.

WILLS EYE HOSPITAL TO HOST ANNUAL GIVE KIDS SIGHT DAY 10/4 Uninsured and underinsured children can receive eye screenings and glasses prescriptions on Saturday, 10/4 PHILADELPHIA – Wills Eye Hospital will host its 16th annual Give Kids Sight Day on Saturday, October 4. This initiative allows uninsured and underinsured children in the Greater Philadelphia area to get access to vision care including eye glass prescriptions. Day-of walk-in appointments are welcome.

Parks are a great place to stay active, try new forms of exercise, and make new friends. That’s especially true in West Fairmount Park.

Mr. Rob Busher, if we can reprint his story here in the Parkside Journal. A version of this article originally appeared in the Pacific Citizen newspaper. Several Japanese American groups traveled to Washington, D.C., during the week of May 12 in support of Black reparations.

Although this is certainly true, the same can be said for low-income communities lacking adequate medical services. As a practicing registered nurse and a community news reporter, I am very interested in health-related services available to my community. One way to combat a lack of medical services is through free community clinics.

by the Park Conservancy Fairmount Park Conservancy recently released new designs for The updates planned for the John Welsh Memorial Fountain and the surrounding landscape. Drawing on insight from neighbors and park users, the designs include a functioning fountain as well as learning and play features, comfortable seating, public art, new trees and plants, and more.

PHILADELPHIA — City Council voted yesterday to approve Bill No. 250174, introduced by Councilmember Jamie Gauthier and Councilmember Rue Landau, which extends the enrollment deadline for the City of Philadelphia’s low-income property tax freeze to September 30th. The bill now heads to the Mayor Parker’s desk before becoming law, but residents can already apply for the tax freeze under the extended deadline.
