The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) today released its draft environmental impact statement (EIS) for a new municipal solid waste landfill that Dem-Con has proposed at its environmental campus near Shakopee. The public is invited to comment on the draft EIS through Aug. 6, 2026. The proposed landfill will convert 2.2 million cubic yards of an approximately 81-acre fill area set to be used for construction and demolition waste into a new municipal solid waste landfill.

Community members advise agency on incorporating environmental justice principles throughout MPCA’s work The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) announced today that it is seeking applicants for its environmental justice advisory group (EJAG). The MPCA encourages members from diverse and underrepresented communities to apply for the agency’s EJAG, a cohort of individuals from across Minnesota who advise the agency on matters related to environmental justice.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency announced cleanup plans for the defunct Hibbing Gas Manufacturing Plant site. The agency explained its cleanup plan for this site in a draft Minnesota Decision Document, which is available for public comment until July 9, 2026. Under the draft plan, the MPCA plans to remove contaminated soil and place land-use restrictions on property to protect human health and the environment as mandated by state law.

Hubbard County used grant funding to purchase a horizontal grinder, which can grind wood and brush into woodchips and mulch. Hubbard County recently introduced a new service not previously available in the region. As part of an MPCA grant it received in fall of 2024 to support organics management initiatives, the county has acquired a side-load truck specifically designed for organics collection.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) fined Midwest Investment LLC $25,000 for improperly maintaining and operating underground gasoline storage tanks and pump equipment at a store that was then known as the Mini Mart 6 in McGregor. On Oct. 3, 2024, MPCA staff conducted an inspection at the gas station and discovered multiple violations, including failure to conduct testing of tank systems that prevent leaks and corrosion.
