Schwab's exchange-traded funds (ETFs) don't get much in the way of media attention, but that doesn't mean they don't deserve our attention. The modern stock market has effectively ceased to function as a venue for individual security selection. Investing being business as usual? No ma’am, not in the least bit. This is a whole new world. One that requires a different mentality before we can even begin to operate successfully in it. First, the S&P 500 Index ($SPX) devolved into one giant, unified macro trade. Then it infected other equity asset classes. Now, it is not uncommon to see stocks, bonds, commodities, and crypto all moving in sync.

SoFi Technologies (SOFI) continues to post robust quarterly results, yet its share price remains down 43.5% from its 52-week peak, trailing the broader market. SoFi’s underperformance stems largely from the market’s anxiety over the company's evolving revenue mix. In recent quarters, the company has become more reliant on its lending business, which requires substantial capital and exposes the company to greater credit risk.

Dell Technologies (DELL) just posted another monster beat-and-raise quarter that saw DELL stock jump more than 15% on Sept. 1 and almost 5% in the following session. But as delighted as Dell investors are, Micron Technology (MU) investors should be equally ready to celebrate. The quarterly numbers validate Micron's growth trajectory, and it shows there is little let up in sight.
