Nikon is releasing a cute plush keychain toy of its mascot Nikon-chan that is exclusively available in Japan. As ProNews reports, the Nikon-chan character is from Nikon Imaging Japan’s official X page (formerly Twitter). The Nikon-chan keychain plushie will get a limited release tomorrow (Tuesday, August 25) at 10 a.m. It will cost 2,900 yen (roughly $18), and only 500 units will be available.

A business publication out of Japan has resurfaced speculation that the eyeglasses juggernaut EssilorLuxottica has an interest in buying out Nikon. As reported by Yahoo Japan and spotted by Nikon Rumors, the recent financial disclosures from Nikon combined with the increased stake in Nikon that EssilorLuxottica has taken in 2026 has resulted in renewed discussions of an interest in the latter seeking a buyout.
