"Since the first edition of The Pot Book, the world has changed in very interesting and complex ways," the artist and writer Edmund de Waal tells Phaidon.com. "Firstly, there's a new generation of people who are using clay, who it's really important to represent fully. We wanted to bring forward the voices of the people who are now flourishing in ceramics.

“Obviously when people go through cookbooks, they often only look at the photos but I'm super happy with all the head notes and the essays we wrote. They're really good and tell people what the restaurant is really about, aside from the recipes for the dishes we serve.” Mon Lapin, Montreal, Quebec.

It’s really one of those projects where I was  pleasantly surprised at how beautifully it looks altogether,” Ping Zhu, the celebrated artist and illustrator of Animals of the Chinese Zodiac tells Phaidon.com. “It really feels like a collaborative project. I'm really proud of the writing that Teresa, the author, did. It's so fun and joyful. It's so inclusive of all different types of people.

"When I began this project, I thought that we would be documenting a history, like the aura surrounding the artifacts in a museum," says Su Wu, author of Mesoamerican Modern: Ancient Ideas in Contemporary Mexican Homes. "Instead, what I found was the vibrant, living presence of Indigenous ideas in Mexico, in gestures that are at once traditional and radical, of the past in the future, and what is possible in a home." "I’ve always been fascinated by the home," John Pawson tells Phaidon.com. "They're very complicated and architects always want to get away from doing private houses as quickly as possible. Because they are the client’s home,  the process can often be fraught and emotional. But I've always enjoyed them." “Every recipe in the book is something that somebody, somewhere, grew up with,” Ben Mervis, the food historian and author of The Festive Baker: Baking for celebrations and special occasions around the world, tells Phaidon.com. Think of any festive occasion, whether a birthday, religious holiday, or even the changing of the seasons, and you’ll soon realise it’s almost always celebrated by preparing and eating traditional baked goods.

"I’m a big believer in the honesty or the magic of painting," the London born, Berlin based painter Tom Anholt tells Phaidon.com. "His work has profoundly shaped contemporary photography, influencing African, African American and Afropean artists alike, yet I still think his contribution is less widely recognised than it deserves, particularly outside specialist circles." All of us at Phaidon were sorry to learn of the passing of Gloria Steinem, the writer and feminist icon whose tireless work helped push through greater rights for women around the world, over five decades of truly groundbreaking activism. Steinem spearheaded sweeping cultural transformations across virtually every facet of women’s lives, in business, law, sport, entertainment, the arts, and in the home.
