Just adding this little note an hour after publication. This subject is not new for me. I have written about US public opinion and war extensively in my career. Hi All, It is a crazy week and it is only Wednesday. I almost wrote a separate piece on what might be the single most destructive step I have ever heard being contemplated by a US administration. Instead of flooding your inboxes, however, I thought I would lead with it in this Midweek Update, before focusing on the US-Iran War as per normal. Ok, final announcement on the changes coming in for the Substack. I still have not had a satisfactory answer to the question of what happens to people who are on free trials before July 1 (tomorrow) but whose trials end after that date. The background to this is explained here for those who do not know it.

Before I get into the update this weekend, a few announcements. The first is that, if you did not see this piece on Thursday (see image below), there will be a special Substack Live this coming Thursday with Andriy Zagorodnyuk and Edward Stringer. The three of us will discuss the creation of a new paradigm for airpower, which seems to have played some role in influencing Ukrainian strategic thinking. The second announcement also comes out of that piece.

Last weekend, the second section in the update was entitled “Watch Belarus”. It was noticeable how in the week leading up to that piece, the language between Ukraine and Belarus, arguably one of two allies with which Russia cannot wage this war (the other is China), had changed notably. In particular, Belarus’s dictator, the nasty and thuggish Aleksandr Lukashenka, had all of a sudden, tried to make nice with the Ukrainians.
