The station was formed in 1996 and has been broadcasting full-time on FM since 23 March 2007, having completed twelve 28-day restricted service licence broadcasts on FM between 1996 and 2006. Source

Sunderland prepares to host the first International Defence Esports Games
Sunderland will become the centre of an unusual branch of competitive gaming this October. Military personnel from several countries are due to compete at the inaugural International Defence Esports Games, a tournament combining conventional esports with drone racing. The finals will be held at the British Arena from 9 to 11 October 2026. Online qualifiers determine which countries reach Sunderland, with the top eight nations in each of four gaming disciplines progressing to the live event.

Brookside Theatre has a packed programme of brilliant events, from musicals and bands to special live shows so Jo was joined on Drive by Howie Rogers from premier tribute band Never 42 ahead of their gig on 22nd August. Level 42’s jazz funk-pop sound is famously difficult to capture, which is exactly why Never 42 have built such a strong reputation.

The inaugural performance at Corpus Christi Church in Collier Row on Sunday 19 July exceeded all expectations, with tickets selling out around 10 days before the event and organisers having to turn people away as the church reached capacity.
