Buying or selling beer on credit is a criminal offence in Zimbabwe. Licensed operators such as bars, bottle stores and shebeens risk tough penalties, including losing their operating licences, if they run “tab” systems or let customers pay later. A “tab” system means keeping an open bill for a customer, allowing them to order drinks over time and settle the total later. While it may look like a short-term line of credit, the practice is banned under Zimbabwean law.
The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) has raised concern after an armed gang of about 20 people raided one of its electricity feeder stations near Harare, making off with transformer components worth US$10,000. The attack happened on the night of 23 June at Marova Feeder Station, which sits between Norton and Lochinvar. According to the NRZ, the gang arrived in a truck before jumping the perimeter fence. Two NRZ security guards who were manning the facility were overpowered during the raid.
Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) president Nqobile Magwizi believes Chahwanda Stadium could host the next Mukuru 4 Nations Cup, although the venue is still waiting for final approval from the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Nine former Pioneer Coaches (Pvt) Ltd workers have finally won an executable court order after registering a Labour Court award with the High Court. This means the Sheriff of the High Court can now seize the company’s assets if it fails to pay them. The workers are represented by lawyer Moses Kavhumbura of Kavhumbura Law Chambers. They have been fighting the case since they were dismissed in 2020.
David Mnangagwa, a nephew of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, has been reported to the police for allegedly damaging property at Murairwa Business Centre in Gutu South. The incident followed a fight on Christmas Eve in 2025. The businessman affected says the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has not acted on the case six months on. Zimbabwe’s fight against poaching has been given a boost after Emirates SkyCargo teamed up with Dogs 4 Wildlife, a UK charity, to send two specialist dogs to the country. The dogs will work with wildlife rangers to track poachers and support conservation work at Matusadona National Park. In the first phase of the partnership, Emirates SkyCargo will fly the dogs from the UK to Southern Africa.
City Parking plans to install forty-nine smart traffic systems across Harare in a big push to ease the city’s traffic problems, the company has said. The project is being done with the City of Harare. It involves replacing old traffic lights with new solar-powered ones at busy junctions in the city centre. The new lights have bright LED displays, use less energy, can be checked remotely, and are easy to upgrade. That means they should work well in all kinds of conditions.
