The Leduc RCMP and Leduc Rural Crime Watch are partnering to help residents prevent plate theft by offering tamper-resistant license plate screw installations. Stolen license plates are frequently used in criminal activity, according to an RCMP release. “These specialized screws provide a simple, effective way to secure your vehicle and assist in local crime prevention.” When: Saturday, Sept. 12​, between 1 and 3 p.m., weather permitting.

Taste of Wetaskiwin is returning for another evening of sampling local cuisine, craft brews and spirits, and live music, Sept. 11, from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Co-op Place Rec Hall.

Two suspects in an Ontario homicide have had their charges upgraded to first-degree murder and the two are still on the run. Ontario Provincial Police announced the upgraded charges against Ottawa men, 34-year-old Joseph Madore and 28-year-old Brayton Kennedy, on Thursday (Sept. 3). They were both previously facing second-degree murder charges previously. Both have warrants for their arrest. Police are also still warning that Madore and Kennedy remain at large.

Ponoka RCMP is asking for the public’s help in locating 14-year-old August Cunningham. August was last seen on Aug. 30 around 11:40 p.m., in Ponoka. She may be in the Red Deer or Edmonton areas. RCMP is worried for her well-being and would like to speak with her. August is described as having: – a medium complexion – 5 ft., 4 inches tall – 130 lbs. – having blue and black hair, and – blue eyes She was last seen wearing gray pants, black hooded sweater and a Blue Jays ball hat.

Bilateral federal-provincial agreements are coming to an end in 2027, putting funding for mental health programs in the provinces and territories at risk. In 2017, the federal government established an $11-billion bilateral health agreement with the provinces, with the money to be directed to mental health, addictions and home care.

There has been a growing trend in mental health call-outs for RCMP across the country, and the province has an approach that the local detachment hopes will help. Drayton Valley RCMP detachment Sergeant Dan Ferri says mental health calls in 2025 took up more resources than any other type of call. “We can definitely say that mental health calls are our number one call for service that takes the time of the local officers,” says Ferri.

Ponoka RCMP is asking for the public’s help in locating 17-year-old Talon Horton. She was last seen on Aug. 29, around 4:15 p.m. in Ponoka. She may be in the Red Deer or Edmonton areas. RCMP is worried for her well-being and would like to speak with her. Talon is described as: – having a nedium complexion – 5 ft., 5 inches tall – 100 lbs. – having black hair (wig), and blue eyes She was last seen wearing all black, silver shoes and a blue medical mask.

Thanks to a combination of satellite imagery, observations from small aircraft and reports from boaters, BC Hydro says the mystery of a disappearing island has been solved. The floating island on Williston Reservoir, near Mackenzie, became one of Canada’s “most famous islands,” BC Hydro said after news stories – nationally and internationally – of it mysteriously appearing near Finlay Bay and then seemingly vanishing.
