Earlier this week, following time spent with Singer’s brain trust at FOS, we mulled their success when it comes to exploiting the apparently limitless opportunities afforded by the Porsche 964. But it is always a good idea to limit your daydreaming where Singer is concerned, as the chances of you actually buying one of its cars - given the extraordinary cost of commissioning one - is very small indeed.
BMW, Toyota kick off renewable fuel pilot scheme
You might think that 100 per cent renewable gasoline is the classic great white hope; hypothetically possible, but not really likely or practicable or profitable at scale. Well, BMW, Toyota, Bosch and Repsol beg to differ. They’ve just launched a six-month initiative in Spain to provide real-world evidence that such fuel - specifically Repsol’s Nexa 95 petrol - is sufficiently available via current infrastructure to support a fleet of unmodified vehicles. Repsol’s what now?
2026 Gunther Werks F-26 | PH Review
If 330hp was enough to earn the original rear-drive 911 Turbo the nickname of Widowmaker, what do we call a 1,067hp Gunther Werks F-26? Forget sending you home in a box, as the speedo nudges 170mph before the braking point into Woodcote, this rear-drive turbocharged monster feels like it could send you into orbit. But you expect rocket ship straight-line performance from a four-figure output.
Denza gunning for 'ring record with 2,000hp Z
Assuming you went to FOS last week, you’ll know how seriously BYD (and the Denza and Yangwang brands contained within) takes its growing presence in the UK, as you can’t have failed to notice its centrally located giant stand. But even if you didn’t attend, you’ll have doubtless seen all the surrounding attention given to the new Denza Z, a tri-motor 1,605hp EV that starts at £142,900 and is fully intended to make people think twice about forking out upwards of £199k for a Porsche 911 Turbo S.
Urban Widetrack Avontur Prototype for sale
It isn’t often, in the wake of FOS, that we get to spot something that was sat on a show stand 48 hours ago, but here we are - the Urban Widetrack Avontur, white hot from its world debut at Goodwood, is now listed for sale on the nation’s best used car marketplace. Granted, you’ll need to stump up £160k (more than the starting price of a new OCTA) to make it yours, but the OCTA isn’t one-of-a-kind. Or a pickup truck.
Volvo marks 35 years of 'pioneering' 850
This year, Volvo marks 35 years of the 850, the sharp-suited saloon (and later estate) that introduced not just a new look and platform, but also the sort of innovative features that helped cement the manufacturer’s reputation as a pioneer of road safety. More excitingly, it showed the world what a wagon would look like in Touring car costume (fantastically good), and then gatecrashed the road-going performance market with the mould-breaking T-5R.
Toyota GR GT first look, combustion Alpine A110...
Another year, and another Goodwood Festival of Speed is now in our rear-view mirror. What was once a summer party dedicated to anything on wheels has now become the unofficial British Motor Show, with manufacturers turning up in full force to present their latest wares. Naturally, we were on the (extremely hot) ground to check out the new metal and see what juicy information we could extract from the people behind it.
Let's all welcome new 1,070hp V12 into world
Those with exceptional powers of recall might just remember the Nilu from a couple of years ago. The hypercar shown at Monterey Car Week was notable for two reasons: one, its remarkable appearance, courtesy of Sasha Selipanov (also the brand’s co-founder), whose previous employers include Koenigsegg and Bugatti. And two, the all-new, naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 that was conceived to power its two-seat carbon monocoque. Via a seven-speed manual, obviously.
Toyota fuel cell prototype set for Dakar Rally
Toyota will endeavour to bring water to the desert next year when it fields a fuel cell-powered Hilux in the Future Mission 1000 class of the Dakar Rally.
For sale: all the Singer 911 you'll ever need
It was enlightening, on the first day of Festival of Speed, to hear Singer’s leadership team talk at length not just about its status as the Central Feature marque, but also its exalted position in the current ‘restomod’ market - a market it has arguably done more than anyone to elevate in scale and prominence.
