Pixel Arcadia showcase promises “the biggest night in retro gaming”
Pixel Helix, a marketing agency specializing in retro games, is hosting the first-ever Pixel Arcadia – The Future of Retro showcase on August 24, via Twitch and YouTube, as well as Steam and GOG. Hosted by developers and content creators, Hasraf ‘haZ’ Dulull and Dan ‘MrPointyHead’ Maher, the digital showcase will feature 90 minutes dedicated to retro gaming. Now when I think ‘retro gaming’ I think literally ‘old games’ from the 80s and 90s (are 2000s old yet?).
Code Ninjas becomes first and only kids STEM program to earn International Society of Technology in Education (ISTE) Seal
Code Ninjas, the kid-centric coding franchise, has earned the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Seal, making the organization the first, and currently only, kids STEM program recipient. Code Ninjas continues to find success around North America, opening more than 20 new locations in the first half of 2026. Demand for technology-literate youth continues to grow, especially as more kids and teens have already begun using AI as they explore technology.
Guardians of the Wild Sky is a co-op survival-crafting creature collector with airships and dragons
Paradox Interactive announced they are publishing Guardians of the Wild Sky, an open world survival-crafting adventure developed by Blue Isle Studios. Guardians of the Wild Sky will release on Steam Early Access next year. Though the premise of an open world survival creature collector sounds similar to mega-popular game, Palworld, Guardians of the Wild Sky takes a more high-fantasy approach to its creature designs.
Kingdom Hearts 4 will release late 2027, confirms Coco as a new world
At fan expo D23 2026, Disney and Pixar officially announced Coco 2, along with the reveal that Coco will appear in Kingdom Hearts 4, which is releasing in late 2027. Actor Benjamin Bratt (voice of the villainous Ernesto de la Cruz) headlined the news on stage, and revealed that his character returns in the sequel, and in the upcoming game. Disney and Square Enix showcased a live Kingdom Hearts panel at D23, Deep Dive into Kingdom Hearts.
Disney Dreamlight Valley D23 panel reveals second 2026 roadmap, teases next big expansion: Keepsake Sea
During a live panel at Disney fan expo, D23 2026. Gameloft revealed the second 2026 roadmap of new content coming to Disney Dreamlight Valley, including teasing the next big expansion pack, Keepsake Sea, launching this October. The Disney Dreamlight Valley live panel starts at 16:40 in the above video, and the actual new content is near the end starting around 48:28.
Pokémon Pokopia sells over 5 million copies in first four months
Nintendo and The Pokémon Company announced that global sales of Pokémon Pokopia have surpassed five million units, across physical and digital versions, since launch earlier this year on March 5. Five million is an impressive number — though not for the Pokémon series. For comparison, the previous Pokémon release, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, sold over five million within a single week of release in October 2025 (Z-A also launched on Switch and Switch 2).
Pokémon Bank, the original 3DS-era storage system, is shutting down in 2027
Nintendo has announced the End of Service for Pokémon Bank. Pokémon Bank will end on Thursday, February 25, 2027. Don’t worry, we’re not talking about Pokémon Home — that’s a separate application and still very much alive, and the primary way Pokémon players transfer their ‘mons between different platforms and games, including Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Champions. Pokémon Bank was created during the Nintendo 3DS era of Pokémon games (circa 2013).
Tiny Monster Haven is a Pokémon-like desktop idler
Solo indie developer Digging Dino has released creature collector and idle game Tiny Monster Haven on Steam, with a 10% launch discount. Tiny Monster Haven is a desktop idler that’s designed to sit at the bottom of your PC screen, a la Rusty’s Retirement. While players can grow and farm crops as in many idlers, Tiny Monster Haven is all about collecting, training, and battling monsters. No cutesy names, just ‘monsters!’ After choosing a starter monster, players start growing and harvesting crops.
Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is coming to iOS and Android mobile platforms
THQ Nordic has announced that Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is now available for pre-order on Apple App Store and Google Play. The remade platformer will soon launch on mobile platforms. Epic Mickey was originally released in 2010 on the Nintendo Wii, the rare video game platformer that starred Mickey Mouse — alongside original Disney mascot Oswald the Rabbit. In fact, part of the game’s inspiration was Disney reacquiring the rights for Oswald back in 2006.
