Feminist icon Gloria Steinem died September 3 at the age of 92. Her death was announced on her official Instagram page, which read: "Yesterday, Gloria Steinem passed away peacefully at her home in New York City, surrounded by some of the many who loved her.

Playbill is happy to announce an official partnership with Penny Linn. For years, Playbill has offered its covers on paper, posters, mugs, pillows, blankets, and other items that fans can enjoy. Zachary James (Hadestown) has joined the cast of Ruth Stage's upcoming Off-Broadway presentation of Ayn Rand's interactive courtroom drama Night of January 16th, set to begin October 7 at Theatre Row. Opening night will be October 11, with performances continuing through October 18. James, an operatic bass who's also appeared on Broadway in The Addams Family, Coram Boy, and South Pacific, will play attorney Flint, with further casting to be announced.

September 04, 2026 By Andrew Gans Jimin Moon, who created the role of Shane Hollander in the Off-Broadway hit Heated Rivalry: The Unauthorized Musical Parody, can be seen recording "I Can Host" from the new musical in the video above. As previously reported, Heated Rivalry will release an original cast recording September 18 via Center Stage Records.

Mozart to Pop Chart will play New York City's Kaufman Music Center September 18 for a one-night-only presentation Written by Nat Zegree, the show is a sonic journey through 400 years of music history. The evening will feature performances by Jordan Fisher (Hamilton, Sweeney Todd, Dear Evan Hansen, Hadestown) and Taylor Iman Jones (Head Over Heels, Six, Elephant Shoes).

John Caird and Paul Gordon's 2000 musical version of Jane Eyre is getting a long-awaited U.K. debut at Southwark Playhouse Elephant, and Playbill has a first look at the new production. Performances began August 28 and continue through October 24. Opening night is September 8. Take a look in the gallery below. The new staging is co-directed by Caird (Les Misérables) and Megan McGinnis, reuniting after the latter starred in Caird's Daddy Long Legs musical.

September 04, 2026 By Andrew Gans Tony nominee Josh Young, seen on Broadway in Jesus Christ Superstar and Amazing Grace as well as in the national tour of Evita, is currently playing Jean Valjean in the Hudson Valley Shakespeare's production of Les Misérables.

Kerry Butler, who played Audrey in the 2003 Broadway debut of Little Shop of Horrors, will direct the Alan Menken-Howard Ashman musical this fall for Massachusetts' Harbour Lights Theatre. Performances are scheduled for October 21–25 at The Ellison Center for the Arts in Duxbury. Casting and additional creative team members will be announced at a later date. “Little Shop has always held such a special place in my heart,” says Butler in a statement.
